(6 pack) Great Value Sardines in Oil, 3.75 oz

I've been buying a more expensive brand for years and they rate great, but it was mostly a bunch of little sardines packed into the can. This has about 4 large sardines in the can and they taste amazing. This is now my go to brand for sardines. I love them in oil and the excess oil is poured over my dog's food. He is happy, I am happy. It's a win-win.

I never bought or ate sardines but wanted to try them as a new source of protein. Turns out, I personally don't like them, and they smelled a little strong for my taste . However, I gave them a good review because GV brand sardines were plumper than I thought they would be. Their was enough in the can they would have made a nice sized snack for one or two with crackers. They like salmon have bones but the cooking process they are easy to remove, maybe edible.

I'll be upfront—I bought these Great Value sardines in oil because I was trying to add more tinned fish to my diet without spending a fortune. At this price, I figured if they were terrible, I'd only be out a couple of bucks. Worst case, the cat would eat well. The can is the standard 3.75 oz size. When I popped the lid, I was honestly surprised. The fish are packed in there pretty tightly, but they came out whole without falling apart. You get three or four decent-sized sardines per can, maybe a few smaller ones mixed in. The oil is soybean oil, not olive, which matters to some people. It's clear and smells clean—not overly fishy or stale. Texture-wise, they're tender but still have a little backbone (literally and figuratively). Some of the larger ones had slightly noticeable spine pieces, but nothing crunchy or unpleasant. The flavor is mild, definitely less “fishy” than some pricier brands I've tried. A squeeze of lemon and some cracked pepper made them genuinely good on crackers. My complaint is the oil amount. It's a little heavy-handed, and I ended up draining most of it off. Also, the can opener tab broke on me once out of the three cans I've opened so far—had to use a manual opener, which was annoying. I'm hoping the rest of the flat stays fresh and doesn't develop that off metallic taste some canned fish gets over time. For now, these are staying in my pantry.

I've been on a fish oil kick lately and I think it really does help with inflammation. These little sardines are good if you don't study them too hard. I mash them and sprinkle over a salad. I understand they go well with scrambled eggs- maybe I'll try that next. 1 can will contain a full portion of the good fatty fish oil and protein. The cost is great and you can keep some in your pantry for snacking with crackers.

What can I say, sardines are an acquired taste. But very much the unsung hero of the pantry staple lists. They are versatile, inexpensive and a nutritional power house. Very high in protein, Omega-3 fatty acids, and a natural mood booster! (Not kidding!) My husband and I enjoy them on crackers with chopped peppers, tomatoes, or cream cheese and a dab of our favorite mustard. Or you can mash them up with a fork, and add some sour cream and herbs and spread that on toast. And with protein sources getting more expensive every day, Great Value Sardines in Oil, or water in the 3.75 oz size, is an important part of our home pantry. I highly recommend you give this versatile little fish a try. You can find some excellent ways to utilize this highly nutritious staple, online and just experiment with what works for you and your family.

so there's no nutritional label on it or anything else I might buy them again but I'm actually looking for sardines and olive oil not sardines and soybean oil I just can't find them here but it would only be one can I would buy at a time . taste like tuna though

Sardines were sloshing around in the cans - not vacuum packed. I have gotten sardines from several other producers, and never seen that before. The can I opened: fish had large blotches. Raggedly cut. Looked like they'd been banged around. Threw opened one away, requested return for the other cans.

It has a warning label on it saying, "Consuming this product can expose you to chemicals including lead and lead compounds" It goes on to say it may cause Cancer. It is past the 90 days, and I cannot return it for a refund. I will throw the can away and lose my money. I will never buy this product again. Why would Walmart sell a product that they know might cause Cancer?
