Replaced my old AcuRite weather thermometer because the older outdoor sensor was not working consistently. With the new one I now have two indoor/outdoor thermometers reading from the same sensor which is great as I can keep one unit upstairs and one unit downstairs.
My first one was corded, so this wireless version s great. It did take me a couple of tries to set it so that it would work in conjunction with my other wireless systems, but all is great now. It's very accurate.
As soon as I inserted the batteries, everything was set, even the date! Its 10 second touch light is blue and bright. The numbers contrast is ALWAYS VIVID as long as you are looking from slightly above it or more. That's true with the light in or off. The indoor station is 9 inches high. The outdoor temperature number on the top is 7/8". I've used these outdoor sensors in the past. This one should work, problem free, for a few years. It has a very strong, reliable signal with no problems! My favorite part is the Waxing and Waning Moon Phase. This is simple, accurate, easy to see and use. I've used numerous wireless thermometers over the years. This one is my favorite! That's why I am sharing. Mine happened to be on sale too. Now that I know how nice it is, I would have no problem paying full price. After checking out inferior thermometers, even full price for this one seems to be a really good value! I couldn't be more pleased about purchasing it!
My old one's sencor went bad but I had it for a very very long time. So I thought I would give this one a try, hopefully it lasts as long as my old one did.
I bought this a month ago and am impressed with all the features that are displayed on the Thermometer. Indoor/Outdoor temperatures and humidity, time/date/moon phase and many more features. As soon as I inserted the batteries, all readings were immediately displayed.
This device is simple to set up and use. It sets the correct date and time by itself. The numerals are large and easy to read and comprehend. The back light is blue and is really bright. Appears to be very accurate with the Weather Channel outside temps and humidity. Takes 5 batteries - 2 in the sensor and 3 in the receiver. Seems to be well constructed.
Didn't even realize it had the high and low feature but I find it very handy-- I want to know how cold my horses got in the wee hours so I know how much hay to give them. Also, having a second opinion of the indoor temperature away from the wall thermostat helps me regulate the space heater. The time seems to be a few minutes behind my cell phone. Good value and features, just what I needed.
I buy about 50 of these each year, mostly from Walmart.com to install in homes that my company has worked on either completing a sealed crawlspace or attic weatherization. About 1 out of 50 is faulty, and I try to test them by setting them up with the remote sensor zip tied to the base unit and checking to make sure that the "indoor vs outdoor" temp/humidity is within a few degrees of each other. A good reading is within 1-2 points or exactly the same, and other brands are good when they are within 5-6 points. When faulty, the humidity reads 98% due to an error I assume in the sensor. The main reason I love the design is the huge, flat bezel. I write on it to make it easier for my clients to see "where" the remote sensor is:
Great concept, but after putting in the batteries and locating the sensor outside and well away from the house, the outdoor temperature registered virtually the same as the indoor temp at all times. I waited several days to see if it would calibrate or start working properly, but it did not. I returned it.
I bought this item to replace a similar monitor I've been using for several years that only monitored indoor humidity. This would have been a good value if it had worked as advertised. After loading batteries I placed the unit and remote sensor right next to each other for several hours, and noticed the temp reading was off by 2 degrees. I called the company and was told that being off by 4 degrees would have been acceptable! May the brand should be named AproxRite? Deciding I could live with a 2 degree difference, I next decided to test the outdoor humidity reading. But the inaccuracy here was unacceptable: Although several online weather stations near my house (www.wunderground.com) reported humidity readings of about 85% (very humid), this device reported the humidity as 65% (a little humid). As a result, I decided to return the item to Walmart.
