I have always had good luck with Amdro products so I was surprised by all the negative feedback for the bait stations. We had little black ants coming into our kitchen near the sink so I sat one of the traps on the counter and sure enough the ants ignored it. So.... I read the package. There were no instructions to do anything with the bait itself, but there was an expiration date on the package. Expiration dates mean the product has a shelf life. The package still had plenty of shelf life left so I got to thinking. Ambro ships the traps in a box and has no idea how long it will sit on some store shelf. There had to be something keeping them fresh until they are used. I took my pocket knife and poked the bait and stirred it up a bit. The ants went wild over it. They even ganged up on the spot on the counter where I had laid my knife. Long story short... no more ants.
First two days carpenter ants ignored traps completely. Some even walked up to the hole in it but then walked away. Toward end of third day I wondered why they were not being attracted to the poison and thought that if I dribbled just a few drops of water inside that might activate it. Within a couple of hours I had ants all over the traps. Within 48 hours there were dead and dying ants all around our bathroom and none coming in. That was a huge difference to the dozens of black carpenter ants in the bathroom at any moment and watching them entering and leaving the bathroom. I've used other Amdro products and they work great. Perhaps they should consider modifying instructions or seal each trap in a foil or plastic to retain freshness. My traps were only covered in the cardboard box they came in.
I purchased these the other day because of a rapidly growing ant problem in my bedroom. After purchasing the bait stations, I wiped down all of the surfaces in my room and placed the station near where the ants were foraging. Like many of the reviewers below, I watched as the ants walked around and over the station without hesitation. The closest I got to success was when one ant ALMOST entered the hole in the top. After reading the review from "SLUSA" I tried adding water to the bait, and it began to leak from the bottom of the station. It made a bit of a mess but the ants seemed slightly more interested. It worked best for me when I decided to scoop out the contents onto a piece of notebook paper and leave it out as-is. They SWARMED it all night (about two or three days ago) and I haven't seen them since. tl;dr The poison works but the ants don't care about it unless you scoop the bait out and add water to make it syrupy. Amdro should really think about redesigning this product. Make it a lot smaller/thinner and make the opening larger so that it's less of a hassle for the ants to explore. And perhaps add better instructions, because it does not work as described on the box. I gave it a 4/5 because it fixed the problem but I would not recommend it for any other reason than it being cheap.
I bought this product because it says it works on Argentine Ants. We live in Southern California where they have taken over in the last few years. They are the tiny little light brown aunts that are everywhere here and have taken over eliminating the larger ants we used to have. They don't seem to be interested in this bait. I had been using the Terro bait, which they love, but it doesn't seem to work anymore. It just seems to attract more of them. I wonder if they have built up an immunity to it. In any case the Amdro doesn't seem to work either. They just walk right by it.
I am confused with the instructions or lack of!!!! If you are to put a hole in it so that ants can eat the food tell us, if not tell us. The instruction technical writer missed this one. I'm going to try it both ways. They could at least address this on their webpage.
I bought this at my local Walmart I followed the instructions correctly and it did absolutely NOTHING! BIG waste of money. I bought Terro next and that worked PERFECTLY! Dont waste your money on this, buy Terro and you will get rid of your ants
This could be the best ant poison in the world, but in the week we had this down it did not attract a single ant. I don't know how Amdro tested this product, but they must have force fed it to some captive ants. In the week we had it down it did not attract a single ant. Save yourself some time and money and just buy the Torro right away. It works!
I think the instructions were unclear. I did place in corner where the ants are and 5 days later they are still active. I thought that there must be a piece of tape on the hole obstructing the entrance but as of a week later, they are still there, and I don't know if I did something wrong? I am not impressed with this product. This item was expensive, and if a college graduate cannot figure this out, thenthe instructions are not clear.
Placed these bait stations as per instructions but a week later I have ants every were,im typing here and the ants are crawling over my arms, these stations seem simple and yes they are but obviously don't work. The ants are just having a party with them don't waste your dollars.
Has been down for 2 weeks and does not attract any ants.
