Completed the deed of installing license plate on my Chevy
These are great for any car, but especially if you're into black trim. The bolt and nuts finish is matte black and because its nylon it doesn't rust. Regular metal screws often have the rust run down on the plate/tag and make it look..."crappy". And when they rust into the bolts they are almost impossible to remove. These nylon screws fit in the original equipment screw holes on my Corvette, Camry and Lexus. Not sure about other makes and models. Note that the package contains 4 bolts and 4 nuts. If you have front and rear plates/tags in your state, you may need two packages. I recommend them!
I tried to fasteners for my motorcycle license plate from a local competitor and it took them four days to tell me they did NOT have them in stock. I submitted my order to Wal-Mart and they had the order ready for curbside pick up in a little over an hour.
Conventional zinc-plated fasteners typically will rust and corrode when exposed to the elements. Especially salt spray from coastal regions as well as the kind of salt commonly used to melt snow and ice. Consequently, it is often recommended that fasteners used to attach vehicle license plates be manufactured out of either stainless steel, which is expensive, or the more affordable nylon plastic, which is what we are reviewing here. The main factor to remember whenever employing nylon fasteners for any reason is to exercise caution when tightening, as excessive torque can result in the screw head becoming damaged (or "cammed"), not to mention stripping out the threads. So, compared with what kind of force you would normally apply with conventional zinc-plated fasteners, you may want to back off the tightening just a wee bit. Also, be sure to check out the other Auto Drive Brand of products. They usually can be found next to the floor mats and steering wheel covers in a typical Walmart store. Auto Drive offers many low-cost, practical (if not downright clever) after-market products, suitable for all manner of vehicles, including recreational equipment such as campers and fishing boats.
These license plate fasteners fit smoothly and turn easily to install. Because they are plastic, they will not rust, which is a huge advantage over ordinary screws. They tighten up well and seem strong, but I do worry that they might loosen up over time as there is no washer to keep them from doing so. I would choose these over metal fasteners as some of the metal ones have rusted and had to be cut off which is dangerous and inconvenient. I like the black color.
This license plate fastener is a philip's head nut and bolt made of nylon. The license plate fasteners that came with my vehicle were metal with a bolt head that you would need a wratchet to remove. I believe this product would be great for a non goverment plate, such as a team plate you would put on the front of your car, or for a name plate on a bike. I do not believe it would be secure enough for a license plate because it would be easy to remove.
I have a 2010 Volvo xc70, the license plate has quite a panel on the inside of the car which would have to be removed by a mechanic to use these things. I really like them because they do not rust and wish they would make them as self-tightening like the ones on my car without a nut just the screw so I could use them. If you have a vehicle where the plate has a simple plate behind it you can reach for the nut these are great. Most cars are like mine, I wonder who designed these and should have specified which vehicles they are made for.
This is not a good License Plate Fastener. You will regret it if you buy one of this. Like me. I install it then the head screw was broke while i was installing it and the worst is, the body of the screw was already in the hole. You can take it out. And i canât put a screw in it at all. Very bad experience and very not recommendable product. It should be NO STAR for this product. Iâm not gonna buy products on this manufacturer.
This product is made out of plastic and it broke as I was trying to use it. the cap separated from the tail that is to screw into the auto plate. I thought this product was metal and saw it was plastic. If I knew it was plastic, i would not had purchased it.
