Good job Black and Decker

Gdubbb July 25, 2018

This is my review of the Black and Decker 6.5 AMP 1/2in Hammer Drill. Black and Decker previously has not been my choice for tools. But, that has changed over the recent years, as other brands have become very expensive. I purchased the cordless version of this drill, previously and had good results with it and it has held up well through all the household projects that I have used it. I also have the Black and Decker cordless Max Lithium-Ion Cordless 5-1/2 in. Circular Saw and truly like using this saw for small projects. My new Black and Decker 6.5 AMP 1/2in Hammer Drill can handle all the jobs that my cordless drill just doesn't have enough power to handle. While drilling into the backyard patio deck I needed the power of a Hammer Drill to get to the needed depth to sink screws to secure the posts to the concrete. I have another drill that I had to use water to keep the masonry bit cool while trying to drive in the bit. The Hammer Drill made quick work of going through the concrete to the correct depth, each time. So now I have a very good drill to add to my continuing line of Black and Decker tools that are not costing me a fortune and are holding up over time. Good job Black and Decker!

A light duty hammer drill that gets the job done

Franky2009 July 21, 2018

In the distant past, I had a lot of problems with Black + Decker equipment. Things have really changed as exemplified by this excellent hammer drill. This is a good-looking power tool that excels in what it is supposed to do – drill holes in hard material. Of course, this tool is also a regular drill that you would use to drill into wood or metal. But its ability to drill into masonry like a hot knife into butter is the reason to buy this tool. This drill has all the expected features of a corded tool. The chuck is keyless but does not have a clutch – it has a shaft lock button. The chuck has a super strong grip because there are 18 turns from full open to complete close. Hopefully, you don't need to bounce between a big bit and a tiny one. I ignore the admonition to not turn on the tool to adjust the chuck because everyone does it, especially with 18 turns. The variable speed range works well for all materials. There is a trigger lock and a second handle that also holds the depth gauge. There's more than enough power for the toughest drilling jobs. However, the tool gets hot and is very loud. The visible construction is all plastic, and I suspect most of the internal parts are also plastic. So, durability is definitely a question. I did not try to purposely stress the tool but I will say that I would reserve it for light duty DIY type jobs.

You will love this machine

BigSmile July 24, 2018

This is a solid, well built tool. The additional handle greatly iproves the ability to drill through hard surfaces and keep the bit straight. I drilled through 4" thick concrete -- the result was a perfect hole. It's not battery operated. It's a wizz-bang of a tool.

6.5 Amp 1/2 in. Hammer Drill

signpainter September 17, 2019

This is a very good tool. Needed to drill holes in concrete blocks for electrical work and worked like a charm. Very glad that I bought it. Tried drilling with regular drill and concrete bit and wasn't getting anywhere. This drill went right through. Would buy again if needed.

Great Lightweight Hammer Drill

happysatisfiedshopper July 25, 2018

Black & Decker is known for its fantastic line of power tools that are built to last and the Black and Decker 6.5 AMP 1/2in Hammer Drill is no exception. When this drill arrived, my husband was as excited as a boy in a candy store. He already had a drill, but he said this one is the best one he has ever owned. Since the drill arrived, he has spent plenty of time in his shop (his playroom) drilling holes in just about anything that he comes in contact with. The drill works very well on brick, concrete, masonry and wood. It also drills through metal. This Black and Decker 6.5 AMP 1/2in Hammer Drill has 48000 BPM. It is complete with a side handle to give you extra stability. It has a variable speed switch, a lock-on button, a forward/reverse slider, a drilling mode selector and a keyless chuck. My husband's favorite feature is the depth stop gauge. With that, he is always sure to drill to the right depth. This drill has made my husband very happy. With the drill being such a sturdy built tool, I see them having a long and happy future together.

B&D Corded Power

FLRHCARR July 23, 2018

The fact that it can drill through the main surfaces that you are going to have in your home, in your projects makes it a great buy. This B&D has power to spare. The speed of courser varies as you pull the trigger, but sometimes you want full boring speed. It also does this in both directions flawlessly. I like that it's not very noisy either. Not for me as much as those around me, who may hear it as I'm doing things. Having the hand grip is fantastic, & makes light duty of harder workloads. I like that you can turn the top handle around, so lefties can use it just as easily. I also like that it has a lock, so that you don't have to hold the trigger down. An extra nice addition is an included depth gauge. This way you aren't drilling beyond where you need to, ruining things or going too far. This is most helpful when laying cable & you have a tight line for feed holes. This drill works really well on all surfaces. Metal & wood are the easiest, if that's something you've done before. Masonry (brick) I need more practice on. One needs a more steady pressure & flow, & not be rushed. This B&D hammer drill has some weight to it, but isn't back breaking as they once were. You can add the extra time to practice your drilling before moving on to the actual project. I would move this forward on the tool bench as being my go to, corded drill.

Powerful!

gimmieadeal August 6, 2018

This is my first experience using a hammer drill; just the name sounds intimidating! However when I opened the package I found a very straightforward, easy to use drill. The instructions are to the point, it has everything you need and nothing you don't as far as features. All the buttons are very intuitive. It's lighter in weight than I expected for something called a hammer drill. It has two modes: regular drilling and hammer drilling. You can easily switch between the two with a slide of a button. It was also quieter than I expected for a hammer drill. I first drilled through a piece of wood on regular drill mode, it handled it with ease. I then switched drill bits and switched it to hammer drill mode and drilled into a piece of concrete and within 3 seconds I had already made substantial progress. Again no excessive noise no excessive vibration it just went to work! Love the keyless chuck. I am very impressed with this tool. I am used to cordless battery drills this one has a lot more power, and I like it! Turns out my husband has had a another Black & Decker corded drill for over 25 years and it's still going!

Not complete

dede6677 September 20, 2018

This is a great product...if you can use it. I could not, since I have no arm strength. I have been trying to put a hole through a concrete wall in my basement for weeks now. But first, this item comes without drill bits. I had to purchase them separately. I have been trying to review this for weeks, but I could not make a decent enough hole in the wall. In fact, I damaged my wall. I refused to take a picture of the mess, instead I will keep trying. I watched several youtube videos and learned how to hold it and drill, but I did not suceed. I know the potential of this product so I will try again. I just have to build my wall back. This is supposed to put neat holes in concrete and wood alike. Thank you Walmart smart reviewer for allowing me to try this item. Where are the droll bits?

Don't risk using this unsafe tool!!!

Kimberly September 19, 2024

This hammer drill is the worst Black and Decker tool I have ever seen. The chock would not stay tight causing the drill bit to wobble around and not make a clean round hole. The drill bit actually spun out of the chuck as I was reducing speed to pull the bit out of the hole I was trying to drill. The auxiliary handle would not stay tight either.
