I've never tried TVP before %26 wasn't sure what to expect. I have liked this brand for everything else so decided to try. I made a fantastic chili. This was very easy to use. The taste was great after adding all my ingredients (TVP has no flavor) and texture was good

Best Brand of TVP: quality, texture, taste

KATHERINE July 5, 2026

I've been using TVP for almost 4 decades (started back when you had to buy it in bulk in food coops) and hands down Bob's Red Mill is the best in consistency, quality, overall texture, and taste. It's a USA product unlike so many brands out of Asia these days where the quality is not as good as Bob's and manufacturing is unknown. TVP is a healthy and tasty way to reduce eating so much meat and save money. TIPS: 1. Never plain hot water because theTVP will taste like whatever initial liquid you reconstitute it in. Use broth, stock, etc. Mushroom powder adds more of that hearty Umami (meatiness flavor). 2. As a hamburger substitute in recipes brown the reconstituted TVP until medium crispy just to give it the mouthfeel of regular ground beef, then add seasonings to use in tacos, chili, casserole, etc. Also try adding mushroom powder to the beef stock as mushrooms naturally gives it more umami (meaty flavor). When you use the bag's instructions, and other brands have the same instructions, you miss the opportunity to make it taste meaty.

tastes just like meat. texture is identical to ground beef or ground chicken. follow instructions to rehydrate add seasonings of choice and you won't be able to tell the difference. from a mom with a very texture sensitive child this product is amazing

Must have!

Brenda November 11, 2025

Very versatile, healthy source off soy protein that is so easy to use. I've made 'sausage' gravy, tacos, and 'meat' sauce that would impress any meat eater

We use this a lot.

Wendell May 22, 2026

It can even make taco meat type Mexican filling. With a good texture and taste it really is a great substitute for those who don't want meat to get protein.

Perfect texture

PS2u2 March 4, 2026

We love to add this to hamburger meat. We cook the meat, add seasoning and then add TVP with recommended liquid for the amount of TVP. It gives a better texture to taco meat and helps to break up the meat.

mushy texture, neutral taste

GGGrl January 31, 2026

pieces are too small-they turn out soggy and mushy, like cardboard. prefer refrigerator section "meatless" ground product but no longer available. will use freezer "meatless" when available instead.

overhyped

Joie May 27, 2026

doesn't live up to the hype, you have to add seasonings, what ever you season it, it tastes like but not as meat like a txture as would like and does not taste as good as meat, or can't tell the diff. that is not true.
