We like bushes the best. We use it to make beanie weanie so your mileage may vary what you think of us and our review, ha ha ha. I always buy the vegetarian because it has the lowest sodium, but if you don't care about sodium, you could always buy the kind with the bacon in it and and then have a contest to see who can find the little teeny tiny piece of bacon that all these companies throw into the can of baked beans. Been buying these beans for 40 years. I recommend!
Went over very well as a meat free option for our picnic. Most people there asked what we did to them. Our response was a shoulder shrug followed by "opened the cans and poured them into a Dutch oven on top of the stove". Many said they never would have bought them because they were pork free. We ran out during 'seconds'.
Tasty and nutritious, although it's not needed, in a pot I add cinnamon, vanilla, chopped onions, mustard, and some syrup, chill it in the fridge, and enjoy! These beans are my favorite for when I want grilled franks and beans as well. I found these at an affordable price, they're just the best when it comes to baked beans, thank you.
These are loved by all in my household. We have tried other brands with vegan baked beans, but always come back to Bush's, and the best price is usually at Walmart. They make a great side dish for veggie burgers and hot dogs. My kids like them warm, but I enjoy warm or cold. Sometimes I cut up Lightlife hot dogs and stir them into the beans, then heat it up in the microwave for a quick and simple meal of Franks n' beans or whatever else you call them (Walmart wouldn't let me post Beanie W**nies). These have become a staple in my pantry.
I've eaten this product for years, but Walmart only offers Bush's Vegetarian Baked Beans in the 28 oz size for online delivery. It comes in at least 2 smaller sizes, so I'm hoping that Walmart will also offer vegetarian baked beans in smaller sizes in future as an online delivery option.
People don't realize that the labeling of the beans does not suggest the taste but that these beans are free from things like pork that is in most preparation of other beans or foods. I have used these beans for years and years and have served these beans to people who automatically love its taste and are forever converted from the thought that the title vegetarian doesn't always mean a bland taste and although the cost has swayed from the vegetarian Bush beans being more costly than the other Bush baked beans the rising price keeps me scrambling to catch them on sale buying 10 to 20 cans to last me thru to the next holiday when the beans are its cheapest. I recommend and guarantee that anyone trying the vegetarian Bush beans over the baked Bush beans or maple Bush beans will realize that the vegetarian beans offer a taste that is far from bland and is better suited to manipulate around the holidays when their are those who like maple or eat pork and you add bacon and those who don't eat pork and you serve them as is, yum!
I don't like the fatty bacon pieces that come with “pork and beans” varieties. So grateful Bush's makes these vegetarian style baked beans! They are my favorite! Most of the time I doctor them up a bit (a little mustard, a little SBR bbq sauce), but they're fine straight out of the can as well. One of the few items that hasn't tripled in price in recent years.
Very good price, excellent taste, a decent quantity inside the can, and you don't need to add anything extra. I like to add a little onions and drained butter beans before baking, but it's fine as is. The flavor is consistent in each can and as a staple in the pantry. Because it is vegetarian, and there are no animal products, eggs, or dairy in there it's very safe for your vegan family members.
Delicious flavor and no pork ingredients. My only problem is the addition of non-essential ingredients. We don't eat baked beans much, but when we do crave them, this settles the craving and brings back the memories of eating Pork N Beans as a kid - only no pork. That is a win for me.
Only major brand vegetarian version I can find where I am. Used to love Heinz Vegetarian Beans but no idea if their recipe has changed. Bush's version has too much sugar and I'm not crazy about the flavor. It's acceptable but nothing to be eating straight out of the can camping — definitely needs well heated. Texture is fine and I think it's ok. It's fine as a side dish. Used to love vegetarian beans with vegetarian canned hot dogs — but they ruined those too. It was a great visibly “normal” meal for a vegetarian kid surrounded by meat eaters long before Vegetarians were as common as today.
