These knives are probably the sharpest I've ever used. My last knife set had the sharpener however, as a mom I did not take the time to sharpen them that I should have. The built in sharpener in the knife block was very appealing. The scissors are sharp as well. Everything is very well made. I purchased these because the plastic handles on my last set were cracking, and chipping, so the full steel handles on this set were just what I was looking for!
So happy with my purchase! Love the fact that it has the built in sharpeners. Cutting my veggies and meats is like slicing butter.
It's difficult to find knives with the right feel because that seems to be a very personal preference. I bought a VERY expensive set of self-sharpening knives with wood handles and I didn't like the feel of them and I felt they could stand to be sharpened manually. Then I got this set and it is a world of difference. The full steel handles have a good feel with sufficient weight to handle the jobs without being tiring. The sharpening quality is fantastic. You won't be disappointed in these.
Knives are sturdier than I expected. Sharpening slot for the main working knives is a huge plus and is easier than using the old straight sharpening tool. My favorite thing about the knife set so far is all the knives are labeled to easily ID what you're picking up, except the steak knives.
I've only had these knives for about a month but they are very sharp and they feel solidly built. I'll have to see over time how they hold up to wear/tear and rust. So far cutting has been a breeze. They look great on the counter and my wife loves them.
They are nice but not great. The blades have defects and deformation in them. The knife holder is cheaply stained and does not have guards for the knives so the entries get beat up quick! Decently sharp and seems to hold its blade well. Great to look at and feels good in the hand but still feels like a cheap knife. I have to other Calphalon's knives that I've had for 9 years and the weight and handle of them feel so much better and has held its blade. The older knives feel way nicer than these new ones.
I am happy with the self-sharpening aspect of the knives and find that the chef, santoku, and utility knives are a good quality and work well. I was, however, disappointed with the quality as, for the price, I expected more. I was also very disappointed with the finish quality of the grey stained block. It was streaked and uneven.
Love the set but my knife block is already scratched and I'm pretty good about not missing the holes. That's kind of frustrating but the knives are great! I didn't want to have to replace it that's why I spent the extra money on it but looks like I may have to replace block....
Within in a month the blades look rusted and it won't come off. My daughter tried a few things and nothing worked. I was gone in NY for months dealing with health issues: procedures and operation. To come home and find the knives my daughter wanted as a gift so bad and find them in this condition. She was upset and worried about telling me because of my health. I wanted to buy her a different set. She wanted this one!
Terrible quality, rigid cuts, not durable.
