Citadels Strategy Card Game by Asmodee

I watched a friend play this game with his work associates at a party over a decade ago when the game was initially re-released, and have been searching for it ever since because I could not recall the name! CITADELS is a city building card-game featuring a cast of characters with unique abilities and perks, the roles of whom players choose and assume each round. This edition includes both expansions, each featuring a replacement cast of characters that you can mix and match with the base game. PROS: Not a zero-sum game! Scoring is only factored at the end of the game (when the first player completes a city) which can lead to upsets and surprises as to who is the real victor! The game has an enchanting Renaissance theme with immersive artwork. The playing pieces (gold pieces and the crown) are well constructed and fun to utilize. Lots of strategy options to explore with added challenge of out-guessing your opponent ever round! CONS: Due to some of the unique city cards and character abilities, further rule clarification may be needed. Some clarifications are explained in the included rulebook, but others may have to be researched online. The character cards are passed around and shuffled regularly throughout gameplay, resulting in some wear and gumminess. Because of the game's unique nature, taking on different character roles each round can be a difficult concept to grasp at first for some players.

Super fun game-lots of variability and replay value. Totally worth the $15
