BEAR-ing in mind that I haven't yet used this on a bear… I bought this because I car camp in bear country. I tested it at home in the front yard and it worked great. Nice long stream, hopefully giving the bear more time to run right into it. I do recommend that you test any new can. I also recommend you test it if you've never used bear spray. It's just good to go through the motions of unlocking and pulling the trigger, and even getting a slight whiff (though do try to pick your moment when you're upwind of the can). And you'll get an idea of how far it shoots so you don't prematurely pull the trigger and empty it before the bear is even in range.

We have purchased similar products in the past as we like to camp a lot, and this one by far is the most functional. The mist is very fine, so be aware of the wind so you don't spray it where it can come back onto your face. It will happen. The sprayer is very precise. We did not have an encounter with a bear while having this product so we could not test it's effectiveness, but considering the scent and ingredients, I know it will work. I would recommend this product to everyone who likes to go camping. Though bear encounters is not necessarily what we would hope for, it's something to consider being prepared for. This product is an excellent option!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I really like that the canister of Bear Deterrent came with a belt holster so you have an easy way to carry it someplace convenient. The canister isn't very big so it's not bulky to carry on your side or attach to a backpack. With a 40 foot spray distance it will go a good distance to keep you safe. The canister and holster are both good quality. I did not actually try it out since it would then be useless for when I may need it later while hiking. But on the overall it seems very easy to use with simple instructions.

If I'm outside at night I take this with me for protections. I would suggest practicing to shoot the spray before you get in a potential dangerous situation. That way, you know what you're doing and have no doubts. Great product for the price and high quality spray so you stay confident during a bear (or other dangerous animal) encounter!
