While I wasn't expecting the knife to be the size it is I love it. It's very sharp and heavy. I cut up some chicken wings with it. I had to put very little effort into slicing into the joints to make flats and drums and cut off the tip. It sliced through almost like soft butter. I would advice watching your fingers near the blade. Almost got myself cutting up a tomato. This is my go to knife for cutting up everything but potatoes. It's too big and heavy to attempt to peel with it.
It is a great knife for the price. Thing is, I got shipped a box of 3 knives, not just one. Chatted with a Walmart help person online and they said, 'just keep the other 2 knives, or donate them, etc...' which seems like such a waste to me from a business standpoint. ( If someone dropped the order off to me, why can't they also pick something up for those to be sold ???)
I had never purchased a chef's knife before so I wasn't sure what to look for in a good knife but I feel I made a very good choice. This knife is an attractive knife and has a nice weight, not heavy yet very sturdy because it is one piece, no screwed on handle. I never knew a chef's knife could make such a difference but have found out how much easier it makes everything. The first thing I cut with it was a cantaloupe and I barely needed to put pressure on the knife and it went through the cantaloupe like a hot knife through butter. I am so glad I chose this knife. Easy to clean and it comes with a very sturdy plastic blade protector. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone looking to purchase a good chef's knife.
This is a very sharp and well balanced kitchen knife. The finish was nice and it was easy to grip. The weight was perfect for me. It arrived with a plastic sheath which I appreciated as the blade is extremely sharp. I've used it on veggies, fruit, and different meats with excellent results. Although it has a lifetime warranty, avoid putting it in the dishwasher. The price for this gem is almost too good to be true. I'm picking up a few more and providing them to family for Xmas!
I was surprised at how great this knife was for the price. It was very sharp and it was very well balanced. It's all one piece to so it's very easy to clean and it looks pretty sleek as well. The sheath was plastic but seems rugged enough and stays on pretty well.
Cuisinart definitely shines with this high quality stainless steel knife. The weight of this knife is 8 pounds, 2 ounces (according to Cuisinart, the handle is hollow). The full length of this knife is 13.25 inches (please see pictures). I used it to cut up an apple and it worked great. I hadn't even yet done any sharpening; just using it how it arrived. The protective sheath is a very nice sturdy hard and thick plastic material. Wal-Mart's price of under $9 was AMAZING (as I checked a very popular online retailer who wanted twice as much for this same knife). After the knife was shipped to me, I have no regrets. Initially, my only concern was that it may be too big? However, after using it, I find I am enjoying it and don't want to go back to a smaller knife.
Nice and sharp, easy to hold and not worry about the handle coming off since it is all one piece. Not too heavy since the handle is hollow but just heavy enough for a good balance. I like that it comes with a cover and if you have a magnetic knife holder the knife will still stick with the cover on. Weird that the knife had some oil or dirt of some kind that I could see through the packaging but it was easy to wash off.
We have spent a lot of money on what were supposed to be great knives but they never held an edge for long and due to heat treatment of stainless steel, could not be re-sharpened {common with cheap grades of stainless steel). Don't know how long this one will last but is super razor sharp, sheath a great plus, but if it doesn't last, it's inexpensive enough to be a disposable!
it actually pretty good worth the investment, not the chefs knife I once had but good. My wife loves that it's lighter than it looks, I prefer a little bit more balanced blade to handle ratio but I have paid more for a lot less quality. if you want a good blade you can't beat the price so do what I did and try it. I wish they had a 6 inch version
I went on a camping trip to the White Mountain National Forest and forgot a box of kitchen gear. I usually bring the knife block from my kitchen in that box. I grabbed three knives, a spatula, and some white bar rags at Wally World to get me by for the week. This knife and the two paring knife set were the knives I bought that day. I wasn't expecting much, but I was absolutely wowed by these knives. They were sharp, held an edge, and those silly black plastic covers made sure that they stayed that way while they were bouncing around my gear box on the forest roads of New England. I see that some of the reviews talk about poor quality, breaking, and or rusting. I cook. A good knife is a tool. I hand wash them, towel dry them, and take good care of them. They are a quality tool worthy of that little extra effort. I actually didn't come on here to write a review. I am on here looking to buy more of these knives. I will buy at least one of each type that they make.
