Dremel 4486 1/32 inch Multi-Pro Rotary Tool Chuck

Many reviews I read before buying the dremel 4486 chuck said that the customer received the item and it was frozen (could not get it to open). Well, the reason is that it appears to look like a normal chuck but works differently. You have to first attach (screw on) the chuck to your dremel tool after you have removed the original collet inside the dremel tool shaft. You then use the locking shaft feature on the dremel tool to lock the shaft and then at the same time use your dremel wrench to turn the barrel of the chuck to grip the item you are wanting to "chuck up". Once I figured that out I have been very happy with the versatility it offers. I almost took it back too before I discovered the code. Unfortunately the blister package was no help.

I didn't expect to have to replace this chuck with a set of collets (Dremel 4485 Quick Change Rotary Tool Collet Nut Set Medium), but I did. I'm concerned the vibration at high speeds wiill prematurely destroy the bearings in my rotary tool.

Don't get rid of your included collet and tools! Be sure to have extra pliers handy for WHEN this unit seizes. I prefer them only because they are useful while they last. Expect to replace or save money and keep little wrenches handy and skip it all together. I am finally fed up with them as I shop for an improved version of it on this website. Bought another one, it was seized out of the package. Soaked it in oil, never unseized. Bought a replacement for it and it would not thread all they in to secure the tool. Then I saw I could leave a review....so here we are.

One of the these came with my Model 395 years ago. When I started having problems with it, I found that the jaws back down directly on the motor shaft, and were gouging the end of the shaft. Unless they have corrected this since then, it should not be used.

I bought this a couple months ago and really needed it to speed up my work. It was ok for a very short time, then as I was drilling the grip would loosen up and the bit would fall out (if I was able to slow it down quickly enough and saw that it was loosening--otherwise it would fly out). Then I would try to adjust it and it would seize up. This slowed me down so much. Finally I'd get it off, but it was a huge effort getting a bit back in and tighten it. It was a vicious cycle, so I just gave up. If it had worked, it would have been great, so now I've given up on this "time-saving" device.:(

Like others already mentioned, this chuck has a HUGE design flow. It is mission impossible to release the prongs if you fully tightened them, even when only light finger pressure was applied. I tried to loose this chuck for like 20 mins, after it got deadlocked with no success whatsoever.

I purchased this chuck attached it to the dremel and it will not unscrew. Highly disappointed!!! I've used dremel products for decades and this is the first time I've had an issue with there product. Would not recommend purchase. I'm presently searching for an after market chuck.
