If you notice, at the time of this posting, there was only one 1 star review, and that wasn't even a review. It was because someone didn't read the description. Meaning, this is a very high quality rod for a very inexpensive price. As for what this rod is used for, it is a very specific rod. This is a kokanee rod, best used for kokanee salmon. I am not in an area with kokanee, but I do have rainbow trout stocked in my local lakes by my states conservation, and this rod is perfect for the rainbow trout. I can also use this for the panfish and crappie in my area with great success. This is truly a noodle of a rod. It is a very flexible fiberglass rod which I wanted over carbon fiber or graphite. It is not really to be used for fish larger than 8 pounds. It is very sensitive. You can almost feel a cricket wiggle on the hook. There is a more expensive pro model, but I find this one more desirable. I do not like the foam and synthetic grips on that model. I enjoy the cork handle on this one. This one is also old school bright yellow that is very visible, unlike the dark pro model. This does not have ceramic guides, which I actually didn't want for this rod. I actually like the stainless steel guides on this rod. Again, it adds to the old school appeal. I doubt these guides will wear out from line passing through them. The reel seat has a steel outer forward seat for strength, another quality many newer and more expensive rods ignore and use only plastic. There is also a convenient 18 inch ruler on the shaft, closer to the reel seat, to help you in areas where size limits are imposed. There is also a cork fore grip. Finally, the writing is in an old school font like someone actually wrote it on like many rod makers did in yesteryears. With all of the old school look and design, it performs like or better than more expensive modern designed rods for this application. At the moment, I have a decades old Pflueger Supreme baitcaster on it with a heavy 40lb multicolor braid tied to a Mr. Crappie camo 6lb monofilament leader. Until the winter trout season starts, this works great for my trolling and dock fishing for crappie and slab panfish. I researched this rod and read thousands of reviews and comparisons, and although many people call it a noodle, it was praised for being a good budget BFS rod. I intend, in the near future, to mate this to a three stage DC BFS reel to try it out for casting down to 2 gram lures because I got bit by the BFS bug. While it may double over with larger fish, it will make the fight seem more epic for future fishing tales. 😉😉 Let's not forget this is from Eagle Claw, which is one of the best names in fishing for us regular people. The final attraction to this is that Walmart.com has it for $22, while everyone else has it for $39 and up. Shown in the picture is my little fishing buddy (oldest daughter) modeling for the review. 7'6" casting featherlight kokanee rod.
I had a rod like this many years ago. This one is very close to it. I caught a lot of fish with it. It looks to be a good one. Can't wait to try it out. Especially in the spring with the Big Ones are out.
a very inexpensive casting rod that has gestures of a much more expensive rod. the tip is ultra light and you can see the tip move even if the fish are just nibbling i was really surprised with the rod and would highly recommend it.
A great rod for bluegill, crappie, trout and has a strong enough backbone to pull in medium sized bass. The cork handle is a nice feature while give the angler a firm grip while making long or finesse casts.
Hands down best bang for your buck Kokanee rod out there. Super flexible but sturdy enough for larger trout and Kokanee. Great for downrigger setups as well.
i Love this rod , im thinking about getting another one just like it. if i could change one thing on this rod , it would be the eyes i think, ceramic
Terrific performance, value and quality. Absolute fish slayer of a rod!
Owned my first Eagle Claw fishing rod when I was a boy. That Is over 50 years ago. Loved that rod. This is a different version. That was was a medium, fast action rod while this one is a medium light action designed for lighter fish. Still good quality, especially for the price. No mistaking this for anything other than what it is. Light action. You will not drag in 5 pound fish with it. You could probably finesse them in, but it wouldn't be my rod of choice for that use. It is extremely flexible, sometimes even feeling floppy. On the plus side, it will make a smaller fish seem a lot larger while working it in. It is still a very good rod if used for trout, crappie, perch, sunfish and medium sized bass. It definitely has its place in my arsenal of equipment.
This is a great action rod. I use it in my down rigger and it loads great. The only reason why I did not give it 5 stars is the connection between the top and bottom is very tight. This could be good if you are always casting but I break it down after every fishing trip. It may loosen up.
I can't really write it if I never received it they never delivered it to me hence the reason the bad rating
