Expert Gardener Garden Soil for In-Ground Plants, 1 cu. ft.

I’m extremely happy with Expert Gardener Garden Soil for In-Ground Plants! I used the 2 cu. ft. bags to refresh several flower beds and plant a few new shrubs, and the difference was noticeable right away. The soil has a rich, dark texture and was easy to work with—loose enough for good drainage but still dense enough to hold moisture well. After planting, my flowers established quickly and have been growing strong and vibrant. Even my vegetable plants seem healthier and more productive. I also appreciate that there were no large sticks or debris in the mix, as I’ve experienced with some other brands. For the price and quality, this soil is an excellent value. I’ll definitely be using it again for future landscaping and garden projects!

I bought this soil last year for my gardens. it was perfect, my veggies loved it. I have raised beds so having the soil in bags makes it easier for me to refill my beds. I am 74 and shoveling and using a wheelbarrow is harder for me. The price is affordable for me and I had the soil delivered right to my home. As long as I am able to garden, I will continue to use this soil.

Product is basically composted shredded tree trash and other bio mass and a 5-5-3 fertilizer boost. It is acidic so good as is for plants liking acid soil. Otherwise for veg or general use I add a fast acting lime. I buy that in 20 lb bags and add as need to sweeten soil for zukes and other calcium 'hogs.' (Trick: At first sign of cal. 'starvation' when blossom ends of baby zukes turn yellow/brown or bloom wilts 'funny' pour a handful of the cal. pellets into 2 gal watering can and fill at high pressure with hose inside to create plenty of swirl to 'melt' the pellets, and pour milky solution around base of zuke plant to saturate roots.) This product also can be used containers; add sand or perlite to soil first to aid drainage (I just mix in cont. before plant). You won't need more than a 1/2 cup of pellet fertilizer (I like WM Organic Veg with bact. wilt controls) per 3-5 gal. container for season, since comes with added fert. Note the soil has fairly big 'shreds' and tends to compact as settles so may 'fall' a couple of inches over season in container, but I've not had any complaints from flowers or tomatoes so far. FYI the all purpose companion plant is marigolds; I buy WM six packs and add one at transplant to baby sit my container starts. Marigolds are organic pest control; source of industrial pyrethrin fyi, and last most of season.

I purchased some Heritage tomato seeds and wanted to grow them in 5-gallon pails. I have grown tomatoes in pots along my driveway for several years and had better luck than planting a garden in my yard and getting zero from it. The seeds finally came up after almost a month and the tomato plants are doing well. The only complaint I have is weeds and grass sprouted in the pail before the plants. I had covered the pail with clear plastic wrap to keep squirrels and chipmunks from digging in the soil. I know these weeds and grass were in the soil when I put it in the pail because airborne seeds could not have gotten in due to the plastic wrap.

As others have said, there's a lot of wood particles and is more like a mulch and dirt mix. The part that I would like to warn others about is purely safety. The bag of dirt is very compacted and you will need to break it up. WEAR GLOVES!!!!! I found many sharp garbage pieces that could easily hurt someone: metal, plastic, tin, and even glass. If I hadn't been wearing gardening gloves I would have sliced my hand open instead of the glove. Please be careful with this brand of dirt.

I think there is something wrong with this soil? Each bag had a section that was grey colored and dry and hard? And I have never smelled soil that smelled like it died?and maybe it’s me getting old but i swear each bag weighs 100 lbs. I questioned if I should use it but I did! We will see if garden grows?

The saying "you get what you pat for" is so true. This was the 1st time i used this soil basically because it was so cheap. Bought 4 bags and this was the biggest mistake i have ever made. Nothing but sticks and all kinds of sht in this soil. I used different soil with 2 other tomato plants and what a difference. I also mixed compost and fertilizer in this soil when planting but that made no difference. Never Again !!

You do not want to buy this product. I bought this for my raised garden bed, and since it said to mix it with soil, I mixed it with topsoil as it recommended. It has now been a month and a half since I planted my flowers, and they are not growing at all. This soil is obviously very poor quality and I would never buy it again I’m stuck with it this year but next year I’m going to get rid of all of it and replace it with potting soil.

They changed the type of wood from hardwood to pine and can't use it on plants or garden, it has ruined Beautiful plants . It causes fungus and mold , The old formula my plants are still growing strong and never had mold. Every new bag has a funny smell also .

nothing wanted to grow in this garden soil. replanted and still nothing grew..everything struggled to grow in this...beans and squash struggled to grow..needed repeated amendment to grow. nevervhad used this brand exclusively before. its like there was something wrong with this garden soil.
