We'll see how the boys like it once Christmas is here and they open the present!!
Played this with my family over 4th of July weekend. We played 3 games in about 10 minutes. It's a fast-paced game and by the end, several of us laughed until we cried.Definitely recommend. We had children and adults playing and everyone had a great time!
This is another crazy and creative game by the Kittens team. Just when you get into the middle of the game, the pigeon "explodes" and then your "I can concur the world" mindset gets a kick in the rear and then it's time for the next round. We loved the mix of giving clues to have someone guess the word and the most satisfying is drawing on the pigeon. It's tricky but once you get the hang of it and people are looking through or around the pigeon to figure out what you are drawing is funny and satisfying. Our only wish is that the pigeon actually exploded, or perhaps shook at the same time that he screams to denote the end of the round. Also, a few tokens that serve as points would be nice. Perhaps some that look like pigeon droppings would be fun and gross at the same time. :)
I wasn't sure what to expect when I first laid eyes on this pigeon. I was pleasantly surprised at how much I loved playing! It was easy to learn, easy to plan and brought so much laughter. We were only able to play with three people but it was just as great. Pure chaos with so many laughs. I cannot wait to play with more people!
Exploding Pigeons is a hilarious and fast-paced card game where you feed your pigeons to keep them happy or sabotage your opponents by overfeeding theirs until they explode. It's super easy to learn, and the silly concept keeps everyone laughing, but it's definitely more about luck and chaos than strategy. If you want a quick, goofy game to kick off game night and get people engaged without overthinking, this one is worth adding to your collection.
My family really enjoyed the game. We laughed a lot while playing. The kids keep asking to play the game. The pigeon is a fun component to the game. The only piece of feedback is there shouldn't be a roll again. Also sometimes out of excitement the pigeon would get slammed too hard and the timer stopped. That's ok though. Will be a part of our family game night rotation.
EK has produced another game with their twist on a classic. In this game, players have to get their team to guess a word either by normal Pictionary, Charades, or Taboo methods. Once a correct guess is made, the Exploding Pigeon is passed as a random amount of time ticks down. We liked this variable because teams never knew when to expect the end. There are several other outcomes that the shake of the die can produce to help the game from getting stale. One thinh we noticed after playing several times is that the stock stack of cards is somewhat small. Hopefully, in the future, more are added or there is a spot to grab words from the EK site. Really, any stanard word repository would work.Overall, a fun time, just wish there was a deeper deck to draw from so that the good times don't dry up too quickly.
Exploding Pigeon is a great way to add some modern touches to the classic game of “hot potato”. The game is fun and intuitive, allowing for some creativity and teamwork, all while keeping the time pressure as a constant background thought. EK did a great job of improving a party game that now has an opportunity to shine and offer something new compared to all of the “card-playing-centered” games that most parties will use these days, so this is a nice refreshing option.
Attempted to play this as a family activity over July 4th weekend, the players ranges were: 8 year old birthday boy, 2 preteen sisters, a couple in their 30's, and some observers from the 40's and above. I tried not to look ahead too much to ensure I didn't bias understanding the game straight from the box, but the concept seemed pretty simple enough, like a mini game hot potato, and it delivered as you'd expect. When we tried to play it though, there were some immediate bouts of confusion, mainly I think the "exploding" aspect of the pigeon left a lot more to be desired. at first it was kind of funny that it sounded more like a turkey than a a pigeon. The background noise and sound of typical activities and loud children's voices made only sound cues difficult to know when the pigeon exploded. Something like eyes glowing, or some kind of vibration from the pigeon would have made the "exploding" part much more immersive and engaging. Using a single word, getting feedback, then another word to continue the back and forth until a word was guessed was too much for the younger players, but immediately clear for the older audience. Charades was also a little difficult for them, but I'm also just not sure if the particular crowd just weren't into or used to this form of activity either. The drawing on the Pigeon shaker aspect was cute, but because it was clear, it made it hard to see especially with older eyes. the dry erase marker tip was also very quickly lost in little hands causing some further disruptions between rounds. The game devolved almost into a chaotic practice of everyone attempting to play a card's word without the pigeon altogether, which was sometimes hilarious when Easter was mistaken for an Eraser, but eventually just kind of tiring as a monotonous children's fix for attention. I'm wondering if the age range could be a little bit higher, less from a choking hazard standpoint, and more from a critical thinking/comprehension standpoint. I think there is a lot of room for growth for this game, I'm personally a big fan of word games like poetry for Neanderthals, but it seemed like there was a very clear divide between comprehension from a family standpoint that almost just made it frustrating for the kids. Some added touches to the exploding pigeon would enhance much of the experiences.
It's a Christmas present.
