I am very happy with this air fryer. I have owned the Farberware 3.2 quart version of this air fryer for 3 years and it is still going strong. I liked everything about the smaller one except its size. With 5 people at our house, using the small air fryer meant cooking in batches. I decided to upgrade to a larger air fryer, and spent literally weeks shopping for one online. I became so frustrated I almost gave up. Most descriptions and reviews don't give size details, so I am doing it for you - hopefully this will make your search easier. I am including photos of the 3.2 quart and this 5.3 quart air fryer side by side for comparison. The 5.3 is larger, but still fits easily under my cabinets. Another photo compares the baskets: the 3.2 quart basket is about 8 inches in diameter while the 5.3 quart basket is about 10 inches in diameter. Many of the other air fryers I looked at had "larger" baskets that were deeper but not much, if any, larger in diameter. This larger basket is a bit "square" with rounded corners which will be useful when cooking larger items. The digital controls are easy to use and this larger version seems to cook just as well as my older, smaller one. The best part is the price - $60 for this large air fryer. It really is well made and as I said, I've owned the Farberware 3.2 quart for 3 years with frequent use (3 - 5 times per week) and it is still in great condition.
At first I was skeptical. I mean, why would you want one of these things that take up counter space when you have an oven? Then I did some research on air fryers and discovered that they work differently than traditional ovens. They circulate hot air at high velocity in order to crisp food on the outside, while keeping it tender on the inside. I saw this one on sale and believe me it is a must have appliance in the kitchen, if you like fried food. My oil fryer always produced lack-luster results. French fries and potato wedges always came out soggy and full of oil. This air fryer uses no oil and the results are amazing. I have never tasted potatoes cooked so good. I would highly recommend this air fryer to anyone who likes fried foods without the guilt of using oil!
ok, I have researched this to depth for hours, days and weeks that I feel like consumer reports...i should work for them. My pick and ultimate favorte and best is Farberware. I have tried the instant pot, Ninja, Power XL,, GoWise USA, Cuisenar and Pilips. The Farberware is built like a tank and is extremely well designed and simple and quality is the best. All but this one had issues with teflon, peeling, rusting and the temperatures not actually being what you set it to when I testwd each with a thermometer... yeah shocking.
I do not like to cook. But this air fryer does all the work for me. I set the item, the temp and it will set the timer but I can adjust. All I have to do is stop it half-way through and gently toss or turn the pieces so that they brown on the other side, then let it finish. It's that easy! (beats standing over the stove !) The timer goes off when it's finished. How easy is that! You may want to purchase some parchment rounds w/holes to make clean up easier and yo can use the same sheet for several items in the same meal. The price is right because I didn't want to spend $150 for something then find out I hated it. I will be buying a silicon baking dish for baking and other things that are more soupy. Also, cleaning up beats the you-know out of having to clean grease splatters off the stove.
My husband was insisting we should try an air fryer. I said we don't have space to store something that large. But eventually, because of the health benefits of oil-less frying, we decided it was worth giving it a try. He thoroughly research all models and sizes for the two of us (didn't want one that was too small to be worthwhile). So sorry we waited this long!!! We love this fryer! Everything we make is just as golden and crispy as if it had been fried in oil. It was a little confusing on our first attempt (right out of the box) to pull open the basket holder...you really need to give it a good tug. The finish on the basket and the inside of the basket holder seems to be a very good quality and washes easily. Yes, it is large and no, we don't have space to store it. It sets on top of the clothes dryer, lol. Putting that aside, I still wish we had purchased this fryer sooner!
10/29/2020 Would suggest not using the preset food time and temps, first time I used the unit it turned my French fries into cinders, better to set the time for 1/2 of the preset and check your food, then add time as needed, tonight I'm going to try it out on wings.
This air fryer is definitely worth the price. Most of the settings are learn as you go, as the book settings were different results. No big deal. The only thing we dont like is when you pause to shake the contents, it completely resets everything after you re insert the basket.
So the food isn't quite as great as cooking in oil but I guess that's to be expected and it does crisp up. It is huge! It is really convenient for frozen items that you would normally cook in the oven, fries, pizza rolls because no preheat oven wait time. I told my teenagers it's like a microwave for crispy things. You do have to give the basket a little tug to get out but since I read that on the other reviews before I bought it, it was no problem.
This air fryer is very large and odd shaped like a big barrel. I did not expect it to be this big and almost returned it as it takes up all of my counter space. I decided to keep it because it was a great value for the price and it cooks very well. I've only used it a couple of times but each time the meals came out great and it's easy to clean up afterwards.
Bought this to replace the smaller version thinking I could fry more foods. Problem was, it was almost impossible for me to open it! That small plastic lever you have to push in with your thumb to release the basket was too sturdy for my arthritic hands and when I WAS able to open it, it was too heavy for me to handle.. and thats without any food in it! If you are strong and dont have problems with your hands, its probably a good thing, but for me, I had to pass on this one.
