These really are some of the best water filters out there. We use these on our well to filter out sediment and rust. These are great because they go down to 5 microns and last quite a while. I swap mine every two months because we have heavy sediment. Comes with small grey rubber gaskets to help seal the filter within the cartridge. As a side note, the trick to swapping out the filters is the black rubber gasket that is used to seal the screw on cartridges once the filters are inside. If one is able, you can use something like Vaseline or food grade silicone grease to reuse the same gasket. On some of the cartridge filters, the lip that the gaskets sit in are nonexistent. It seems some companies want customers to shell out 5 or 6 dollars every time you swap the filters. I would advise every two or three times to replace the gasket however even if you're able to reuse it.
I bought this filter with the intention of using it with my aquarium as a supplemental filtration system. I found that the system was easy to hook using some 1" PVC pipes, 2 threaded male-type adapters, and PVC primer and cement. It works surprisingly well. The filter's tank is about 11 inches in height, and at the top, its outer diameter measures about 6-1/8 inches. The tank is made of very, very thick plastic (about 3/4 in. thickness, in fact). Even when emptied of water, the tank and lid are much heavier than one might expect. The tank is really durable, too. I can be klutzy, and I accidentally dropped the filter tank onto a tiled floor on two different occasions: To my surprise, the tank was not at all damaged by these falls. The screw-on lid this system uses features a push button to release pressure from inside the filter, by the way. That has come in handy a few times, too. Both the inlet and outlet on the filter tank's lid are threaded female-type connections, should anyone need to know this before purchasing. I have my filter connected to a homemade undergravel system, which I made of PVC, and it includes an in-line, submersible fountain pump. Dirty water goes into the pump and is piped through the filter system. The filtered water's clarity and quality were immediately evident, and I dare say, they were even impressive. The system worked better than I expected, to say the least. I used the type H paper filter cartridge at first, but I soon found these worked a little too well--at least for use in my aquarium--because within no time, particulates clogged the paper filter, reducing outflow to a mere trickle. I'm not one to give up easily, and I was impressed with how well the paper filter captured particulates, so I went to the "drawing board" to create a filter cartridge with media better suited to my needs. It didn't take long for me to come up with a plan, so I disassembled the original filter, and I recycled its plastic core, along with the top and bottom pieces from the paper cartridge. Some felt fabric, a few hot glue sticks, and a hot glue gun made quick work of a more suitable cartridge for my aquarium's water. In fact, I have marveled at how well this has worked. Clean-up and filter cartridge changes are easy enough. I simply remove the cartridge I re-created every couple of weeks, or so, to clean it using a water hose with sprayer. I got 3 months of use before I replaced the felt fabric, again recycling the same parts from that original paper cartridge. While one wouldn't want to do this for one's drinking water's filtration, for my aquarium, at least, it has been a very satisfying and simple supplemental system. I can even imagine a few improvements to my redesigned cartridge, such as filling the interior (plastic core to felt fabric wall) with activated carbon. I may well do that next. I've been using it for more than a year now, and it still hasn't developed any leaks. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
Was easy to install. Seems to be good quality.
I bought my whole house filtration system a couple of weeks ago and once I got the person who was installing it, to install it correctly, it's been great. I have a well and so I get a lot of soil, sedation and small particles. Since the filtration system has been installed I have noticed my water tastes better and I also do not end up with a white film on my dishes after using the dishwasher. Price was good too.
works decent, I'm on the end of the original filters lifespan, it does a good job on filtration, not so good on pressure. easy install, immediate noticable water pressure drop. I'm right at the replacement date, for the last week the pressure is very low, it will almost slow to a drip if water is used anywhere else in the house. the only way I can recommend this over a faucet mounted unit is if you can't fit a faucet mount, or you have a nice faucet you don't want to have a filter hanging off of.
Installed 3 filtretes , one in each of our property's ,left our house for three hours, came home to a flooded house. The thick blue housing split and the city water sprayed out, there was water everywhere. 3M said it has never happened before- sent them a picture of the split barrel. They forwarded it to marketing department WOW!
this is the 3rd filter I got because every other time it was delivered somewhere else and had to wait 2 weeks each time to get a refund after finally receiving the filter....i open everything up to set up and install and the filter isnt even a filtrete filter! its a generic one i could have bought off Amazon for way less. This is a rip off...this was my one and only time I will ever buy from Walmart again. and i know the generic one is not the one they normally include because I bought another one a month later off Amazon and it was name brand filtrete filter inside. this entire experience was a joke and a nightmare! the 2nd picture is the Real filtrete filter that was included. the quality is night and day compared to what I got from walmart and what i got from Amazon. save your money!
please stay away. This product is useless. No matter what I did, i couldnt stop it leaking from 2 connections. Also It leaks from filter housing. you can buy something better . Filter size is 9.75. you cant find filter easily. All the filters are 10 inc on the marketplace!!!.
This is real big in size it's not small width might have to take out all the pipes for a smaller pipe
can't get it to stop leaking.
