I'm thinking this will be just what I need. Am in a wheelchair, can't bend over to reach the ground, so gardening is out. I have to do container gardening, but can't afford any more really large containers to plant tomato plants or pepper plants in, so I thought this was right up my alley. I'm really not expecting it to hold up for more than one season out here, live in Phoenix AZ suburbs and it gets like 118 in direct sun and that's all I have, no shade, at least not where I can manuever my wheelchair. Anyhow, I think the price was good, and handles on it makes it easier for me to grab and drag it to where I need to locate it. The fabric ones just don't seem strong enough for me and seem like they might fall over.
Just set the bags up today and filled them so I can't speak of durability or use but they set up easily and hold an ample amount of soil and space for 3 plants, squash, tomato etc ( it's even pre-sectioned for 3 ) I think it's going to be great for our garden this year and will help produce healthy, vibrant plants. There's proper drainage around the bottom and deep enough for a good root ball. Also would be perfect for any small patio for a quick flower bed.
These are supposed to hold up to 3 cubic feet of soil, and open up big yet are compact enough for a small patio. They are made of sturdy tarp material and have grommet-reinforced drain holes on the sides.
The product arrived promptly and was well packed. These bags are of very thick and strong tarp material and I can see that they will last a long time, hold plenty of soil (at least a yard) and support whatever plants I choose to grow in them. The wide bands in the center further pull the bags together so there is no gapping. There are several permanent drain holes on the sides. These will do what expensive trough planters will do but at a fraction of the cost and they are attractive in a green color. I am very pleased with my purchase of eight of them for my patio.
I have not used this item yet, growing season has ended, but I do look forward to growing something in the spring. I have other bags that I used this season and think they are great.
To begin expect to have at least 3 cu ft of soil on hand to fill it and still find space for mulch layer or .5 to 1 more cu ft of soil. It's top has 3 open ings for seperation of the plants but for me the exposed soil area is small in comparison to size of bag. For that reason mainly I could go above a "good" rating. So if your outside container budget is low this works.
I was pleasantly surprised by the size of this bag. It is a nice, heavy-duty material, similar to those blue tarps, only about twice as thick. It has 3 separate compartments, so it retains its shape well when filled with soil. It will be interesting to see how it holds up after a season of sunlight, as that tends to break down similar tarp material over time. All in all, it is a good value, if a little pricey for what it is.
I live where there are lots of trees, not much sun, but I love having growing vegies in the summer. These bags allow me to utilize the little sunny space I have. They are scattered all over in sunny spaces. Even better, when not in use you can pour the dirt into flower beds, fold up the bag for next year...
this thing will NOT stand up like the picture shows. the 2 ties and connect the front to the back is so close, you cannot plant 3 tomatos because of it and most importantly IT WON"T STAND UP!
