Customer Insights: Rated 4.0/5 from 4451 reviews.
This was easy to install and I love that it doesn’t require a hookup to water. It does make noise as other reviews indicates but only when the machine is used it recreates new ice. It does recycle the ice if it melts so it will make noise during that process as well. The noise doesn’t bother us. Having ice cubes is nice because our fridge ice maker broke 6 months ago so this out weighs no ice lol :)
Wow! I had an Opal 2.0 for 4 years. The motor went out and was able to get refund at Costco. I debated about getting another because of how noisy it was from day 1. Just put up with it over the years because we loved the rest of the appliance. The new one is so quiet! Only thing I heard was a soft hum and then the ice dropping until the bin had a layer of ice. Now I can’t hear it at all!
These make great chewable, nugget ice. I have purchased three in the past eight years. Last year, I bought a cheaper, smaller ice maker. The ice was about the same, just a little harder but the biggest difference was the amount of ice produced/available . This ice maker keeps enough ice available for a family….several generous glasses at one time.
I like the ice it makes,it makes a full load in a little time and keeps it till you need it! I have cleaned machine, and it it so simple and easy to clean ! I like the drain tubes are in back of machine not under the machine, you not have to lift the machine. I put small ballbearing wheels they just.stick on bottom of machine makes it easy to turn machine around to get to back drain lines. I LOVE MY ICE MACHINE!!! I CALL HER MISS OPAL SHE IS SO GREAT!!!!
I am writing to bring to your attention a significant operational inefficiency concerning our ice storage and production system, which I believe warrants immediate investigation and improvement. The primary issue revolves around the sub-optimal insulation of the ice storage area. This deficiency leads to a persistent melting cycle, compelling the ice maker to operate almost continuously to maintain ice levels. This constant production and re-freezing of water places an undue strain on the unit, accelerating wear and tear on its components. As a direct consequence, our maintenance requirements for this system are significantly higher than they should be. The unit's perpetual operation, even during periods of low or no ice usage, necessitates frequent cleaning and chemical cleaning contributing to elevated operational costs and potential downtime. This continuous cycling and water recycling process are, in my assessment, the most critical aspect requiring a comprehensive overhaul. While the system does offer commendable speed in producing ice as it's consumed, which is a positive attribute for regular, moderate usage, I have serious reservations about its capacity to meet demand during peak periods or events. For instance, in scenarios involving multiple users or a large gathering, the system might struggle to keep pace with rapid consumption, potentially leading to shortages. Due to the high cost of this machine I strongly recommend a thorough evaluation of the ice storage area's insulation and the overall system's operational parameters to mitigate these inefficiencies, reduce maintenance overhead, and ensure consistent ice availability under all usage conditions.
I purchased this ice maker on black friday sale for around $300. My husband put it together a few days after we received it. I did notice a line or crack in the ice storage bin but my husband didn't think it went all the way through. I've never owned a ice maker like this before but just feel uneasy about it. Bit of aggravation not knowing if the crack is causing any issues with condensation or if this is normal in bin. Didn't want to deal with returning if its nothing at all but worried that machine overall may not be preformingas it should. It makes ice very slowly %26 takes a while to fill completely. Once you get a full bin of ice if not used right away it does slowly melt away. If you take any ice out of the bin it will immediately run water filling the bottom reservoir to make new ice. Odd thing is water runs over ice in bin to get to bottom reservoir. This just seems odd to me but never owned another machine so idk if all ice makers do this. Noise level has slowly gotten louder %26 we have only used this machine around 2-3 weeks. It also takes up quite a bit of room on counter so not for small spaces.
I was so excited about this machine. It was a Christmas gift to myself. Unfortunately it is more high maintenance than Paris Hilton. It’s loud, takes up a large amount of counter space, even with appropriate and very frequent cleanings, you don’t want to know what is growing in there. This was a huge splurge for me. It had a hefty price. I’ve done everything I can, but it’s got to go.
didn't even last two weeks and not pulling water from the water tank now have taken it apart how it was in the box and put it back together and tried it again and still not working. cleaned it and changed filter and still not pulling water from the tank anymore. done everything was told to and not working. don't waste your money
When someone that had one previous shared there experience I was defending the product because of the price before I un boxed... True enough... Water every where... Makes noise like item is in distress in the middle of the night.. .. We had no choice other than to unplug it... I don't think it's defective... Just a bad product
We bought this due to thinking GE was a good product. Only had it for a year and a half, made sure to clean it monthly as suggested, and it quit making ice. Luckily we had bought the extended warranty so was able to get a replacement. Have only had it for four months and it’s now stopped making ice. We don’t have the extended warranty because of this being a replacement. We bought our son one when we first bought ours and his is no longer working either. Very disappointed and espouse to the cost.
