Good Taste, Thinner Consistency

CJ April 24, 2026

I tried the Great Value chili because it has slightly less sodium than Hormel. The two products taste nearly identical, but the Great Value chili is much more watery. It is still a sauce and not a soup, but much thinner than Hormel. On the bright side, it is very easy to get the Great Value chili out of the can, while the Hormel chili can take a bit of effort to extract. Both have convenient pull tabs to open the cans. I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of meat in the Great Value chili. I have tried the Great Value chili with hot dogs and as a quick topping for cheese enchiladas and was happy with the results.

A good can of chili.

Kristopher July 5, 2025

It is chunky with "meat" with the rest being a little thin (watery). The first bites were kind of bland but several bites later had me coughing from the spices. Not a bad thing and it may have just been that batch or that can. Overall a good can of chili.

Better Than Wolf Brand

JR July 19, 2025

Although Hormel or Wolf Brand were my favorite brands for years, In an effort to save money I tried the Great Value brand. Not only did I save money But I enjoyed the taste, texture and overall quality much more than the aforementioned (Way Less Greasy Too). 2 Thumbs Up!

Cowboy style chili

WalmartCustomer May 20, 2026

I love chili in a can ..this chili is good..... compared it to a brand name chili in a can i would choose this one .....it's a good recipe... It is strong enough and will not lose flavor if you prefer to add extra tomatoes or onions it is a good staple to keep in your pantry..

like better than others

Yeosin February 28, 2025

I like this brand better than Hormel or Wolf, it's a great tasting canned chili. I use it on top of hot dogs, french fries/tator tots, over fritos, or in a bowl with shredded cheese on top and some saltine crackers. It has a nice consistency and flavor.

A Decent Middle of the Road Chili

Anonymous June 26, 2026

There are better and there are worse chili's out there, but I keep this one on hand all the time. It's good for a main meal or just a snack. It's got a fair amount of spicy heat without burning out one's tastebuds. It has real chili flavor but at a much better price than many of its competitors. This is nothing spectacular but a good solid comfort food. Big chunks of beef in a good spicy chili base. It goes well with a good chunk of cheddar cheese. It's also good with a dollop of sour cream. It's especially good on a cold winter's afternoon. I've even used it as enchilada stuffing and sauce.. As I say I keep it on hand all the time.

Tastes good but too runny for chili dogs.

Karen May 22, 2025

I bought this to go on hotdogs when the name brand one I was used to was sold out. It tasted just as good but was a lot runnier and messy. I think I'm missing the oats that some people complain about in the other one— they thicken it up and keep it in the bun.

Seems more like a bean dip than chili

WillFeral June 6, 2026

I buy chili to make chili cheese fries and nachos. Chili is usually fairly pricey so when this came out, I was stoked. It tasted okay but not great. And while Great Value products are usually pretty good, this one is one of the subpar ones in my opinion - definitely a case of "You get what you pay for." The texture is not what you'd expect of a "chili" without beans that is supposed to be all meat basically... because what you get looks like a bean dip. Even the meat is questionable looking and often times looks like beans but its probably just some kind of mystery meat. Using this to make chili cheese nachos was a mistake. It made my nachos totally soggy because like I said, it's more of a watery bean dip texture than a "chili without beans." I think I have one more can so I will try using it as a dip instead of a topping and see how that goes.

If Walmart and chili had a BABYit wouldn't be this

hugsnicolle February 11, 2026

OK, I feel so guilty writing this, but I have to first say that I'm obsessed with Walmart and so grateful for Walmart and nothing beats Walmart prices… and because I have the utmost respect, I am hoping someone will read this and for the love of God make it taste better! I could be totally wrong. It's really inexpensive so I dare you to just buy at least one can and test it yourself because I could be a psychopath and delusional and we can have a little chilly off where we compared notes and you can review it after i do… but here are my thoughts… it is no joke super spicy… but not in a good spicy way because I love hot spicy things it's kind of like a bad spice for taste. They added not even like for flavor. It's just like disgusting.. and the worst part is that for some reason, it taste really really bad so it's like spicy up and making something that taste really really really bad even hotter so it's bad and I love chili and I love that it's been so good on them for making it be less fun if it taste good maybe it being hot would work! It might be killer then! But there's something funky about the taste and I seriously will eat anything … I'm telling you I have no food in my house and I'm starving. I haven't eaten in like two days because I've been sick and I haven't had the energy to drive anywhere…. And I still have a can of that downstairs but instead of eating food this can of chili is my freedom from starving right now… but I refuse to eat it… that's how bad it is… I love you, Walmart … please don't hate me!! In fact, listen to this review and a few of the other reviews and just change and alter this recipe because I love chili and I love Walmart and if Walmart and chili had a baby, I would be in heaven .

This chili just tasted wrong. The great value chili with beans taste as I would expect chili to taste this one with no beans did not look that great — the color was more brown than I expected, and looked like other things, and it didn't really taste like chili. I would not buy it again.
