I purchased this item based on its positive reviews, and the fact that it had an "SOS" button feature. Just push a button on the remote, have the alarm sound, push a button again, and have the alarm turn off. I wanted something I could use to spook the cats off of the window sills, and this sounded like a great inexpensive solution.
I checked repeatedly with Walmart's "AI chat" feature that this Greencycle alarm would work in that fashion before putting it in my cart- not that doing that is a guarantee everything will turn out ok. I am disabled, and can't drive to the stores or a post office to make returns, so I make sure to be as careful as I can be any purchase I am making will work out.
Shipping was fast. The item appeared to be quite sturdily constructed. The unit is made out of solid plastic. You pull out a clear plastic tab to activate an interior battery (I assume.) It comes with a fairly well-made little remote. And- that it where my comprehension of this device stops. As other purchasers have stated, the instructions were evidently written by inferior, or outdated, translation software. They are totally incomprehensible.
I read through them a few times, and thought, ok- well- I can figure this out. No big deal. The unit comes with installed batteries, which implies the alarm is ready to use. How complicated can this thing be?
But after about a half hour of reading, re-reading, and poking buttons, things started to get very tiresome. In frustration to get the SOS feature to work, I went back to the "instructions," which mention baffling things like "learning codes." Except- no list of learning codes. "Be cautious of the host can caters up to 8 remote controls coding only, the first registered remote control coding will be removed if exceeds 8 remote controls registration."
Fun, huh?
I received this item on a Saturday. I found, at least, some contact information for GREENCYCLE. I'll have to wait until Monday to speak (hopefully) to someone there to try to figure out how to be able to press a button, get the alarm to sound, press a button again, and have the alarm stop. That's all I want it to do; that's what I was promised it would do, and many reviewers have used this thing that way. Fingers crossed.
I'll be happy to add an updated review if the company helps me figure out this very simple function for their device that Walmart assured me this alarm was capable of. If you plan to buy this device, all I can say is- good luck to you.
