Homemade for lower sodium

CaringWifey September 23, 2016

I have only made 2 loaves so far, one basic white while I was watching it and one Italian using the delay start feature. The white dough needed a little additional water to make the dough elastic and that loaf turned out great. My husband has to really restrict his sodium intake, so I experimented using half the salt in the recipe and used half-sodium salt. It turned out well, texture was good. The slices are 5-1/4 x 7 so you can cut them in half for a good sandwich size slice. I followed the recipe exactly with the delay start loaf and it turned out a little dry. My advice would be do your first few loaves while watching in case you need to add a little more water and adjust the recipe accordingly. Next up I'm going to use the "dough" setting and make some hamburger buns! This bread machine is going to make it much easier to help him stay on track, now if there only was a tortilla maker, lol!

Reliable brand

Xanadou December 20, 2016

I have bought HB brand products before and have yet to regret my attachment. I put the bread machine to its intended use almost every day and have great expectations re its lifetime of usefulness. The last bread machine lasted 7 years. At this rate, when a kitchen device expires, HB is my go-to brand for quality, price, and ease of use. Until and unless I become disappointed, why would I want to experiment with any other brand? (rhetorical).

Wonderful Bread Machine

tahaas December 17, 2012

I have had this Bread Machine for about a week. I have made 4 or 5 different kinds of bread and almost all of them have come out close to perfect. I am at 7400 feet so baking is always a challenge but making small adjustments in the salt and yeast has solved any potential problems.

Awesome!

Ibell June 16, 2015

Had never made bread. Ever. But, I live like 2 hrs from nearest grocery store. I limit my trips to once a month. But, bread runs out pretty fast for us. I found myself having to do extra trips, because we ran out of bread. So I decided to get enough bread for the whole month. Well, it molded up. Not happy. Still had to make trips to get more bread. Then, I got enough for the whole month, and froze it. Many people say that's what you do when you buy bread in bulk. Well, no. It didn't have good texture or taste after thawing it. So I got myself the Hamilton Beach 2-lb Bread Machine . I was super excited, but extremely nervous. I don't really bake, besides the "just add water" premade packages. But this machine is like magic! It comes ready to go. I comes with an extra paddle. It comes with the cookbook! Yes, Several recipes are a touch away! I've done the basic bread, the wheat bread, the cinnamon rolls, the corn bread, and cake. And I've just had it like a week or so. I love it!!!!!! No more extra trips to town!!!!

Perfect loaves of bread!

April August 19, 2022

This bread machine is wonderful. I read the reviews for other machines 4x the price and most said you have to experiment as it takes several tries to get a decent loaf. I followed the 1.5 lb recipe in the manual for french bread and the first loaf was absolutely beautiful. I just made a second loaf, orange-cranberry walnut, and again beautiful and delicious. With the first loaf I forgot to change the size from 2 lbs (if cannot be changed once started) so I was concerned, however, I think the extra kneading helped; I left it on 2 lbs for the second loaf, too. I highly recommend the product and plan to buy one for my sister as a gift.

simple and easy bread maker

doris11 October 30, 2012

I have used this twice so far and I found it very easy to use. I tried a more expensive one first but when I tried to lift the pan out, with the handle, it was in too tight and could not be released unless you put your fingers under the clip to release the pan. This is not possible to do when you are wearing oven gloves to hold the handle, as everything is very hot. So I went into a few stores to look at how others pan were held in, most of them were held in with clips on the side. Eventually I found the Hamilton Beach machine that you turn the pan to lock and unlock in position. This is a much better design and I did not have any problems with removing it after the bread was cooked. The directions are simple to follow and the machine is easy to clean. The bread was absolutely delicious and I look forward to trying different recipes, plus an added bonus it makes jams aswell. I would highly recommend this machine, it would make a perfect gift as a wedding present or anniversary present, or just to treat yourself and family like I did.

Excellent Value

DiggerD April 13, 2013

We purchased the Hamilton Beach Bread Machine to replace a different brand model which had finally worn out after about 15 years. In just a couple of days we have already made two loaves of bread, using the recipes which come with the unit. We also made a dough which we then used to make into garlic knots baked in the oven. The machine looks good in the kitchen and we are very happy with the results. We can't wait for the strawberries to start producing in the garden so we can make some fresh strawberry jam, following the recipe in the instruction book. A great buy, we highly recommend it.

We'll See How Long It Lasts

xuqz December 18, 2012

This is a replacement for a Sunbeam machine that began to leak lubricant into the baking chamber. I will be watching for the same occurrence with this machine as the Sunbeam had the same internal design, but was more sturdily made. Current Sunbeam models may be as shoddy as is this machine. I am keeping count of the loaves to see how many 100% wholewheat loaves will end its life. I am hoping for fifty, a dollar a loaf. Any more than that I will view as a bonus. Unlike the Sunbeam, while mixing the dough the HB emits a high-pitched squeak. Customer Service says this is normal. I have my doubts, but for $50 I did not expect much. I am careful with the finish on the baking tin and after eight loaves it is still doing well; the loaves do not stick after a quick bang on the counter when they are baked. The recipe I use comes out perfectly every time, though I have never tried to have the loaf begin mixing hours after the ingredients are added.

Mine leapt to it's death and committed suicide .

Steve February 10, 2021

I bought this item for my wife for her Birthday. She was very excited to get it as she has always wanted one. The first time she used it, it walked off the counter and smashed on the floor! At first we didn't have a clue what happened, as we were in the next room at that time. But we looked back at our security cam and saw the whole thing. As it started kneading the bread, it began to slowly turn to the side and then just wiggled back and forth till it dropped off the edge of the counter. So disappointing. If you buy one, please anchor it somehow cause it is going to travel.

very disappointed

ggggrama July 30, 2014

Have been using bread machines for over 15 years, lost the paddle to my old one during a move to a new house. I bought this machine as replacement, I bought bread flour and fresh yeast but the baking section did not work right, finally used only the dough setting and baked in my oven. After doing that twice decided to return it back to store, will go back to old brand...Thank goodness for Walmart, I knew I could return, hassle free......thank you Walmart.
