I didn't even know that little thing the nurse puts on my finger is called an oximeter but then we were advised to purchase one because our air conditioning went out, it was extremely hot in our house, and we needed to make sure we didn't get too dehydrated. I learned that heat can cause a drop in oxygen saturation. I chose this model because of the price and it had a lanyard. I figured it would be convenient to use the lanyard to hang it from a shelf so everybody in the house would know where it is. It comes with batteries which were easy to insert. Then I just had to turn it on, pinch one side of it like a clothespin to open the oximeter, and put it on my index finger. The display is very easy to read and within less than a minute I could see my oxygen saturation and pulse. It's supposed to be in the high 90s but one day my husband didn't feel well and his number dropped down to 88, which apparently isn't good. I called the nurse practitioner and was told to bring him in. It turned out he needed electrolytes and an antibiotic. We were able to cut an infection short because we didn't wait a few days the way we usually did when one of us has symptoms. I like that I can also check my pulse because I'm on blood pressure meds and sometimes it slows down too much. It's truthfully one of those things I never knew I needed, wouldn't have ever thought to buy, but now can't imagine being without it. And the price is so low compared to others we saw that we were able to purchase one for each of our kids. I'm so happy we made this purchase and that Walmart carries this brand. The price was lower at Walmart and we got it in just a few days. We have Walmart so the shipping was free. We actually use it quite a bit now and I know that if we get a low reading we need to do something about it. It's also great not to have to put my finger on his wrist to count his pulse. I highly recommend this to anyone and everyone. Oh, one last thing. My husband plays guitar and we discovered that we get a truer reading on the fingers that strum rather than chord because they aren't as calloused.
