Like most exploding kittens games, the artwork is wonderful, quality cards, and the game is easy to pick up. Also similar to some other NSFW expansion packs for the games (thinking bears vs babies), some of the cards are definitely better for adult groups to laugh about. There are plenty of cards so the game doesn't get repetitive in groups. Haven't tried playing as just a pair yet but looking forward to it.
TLDR; A great addition to one's party game rotation, especially for grownups who like games such as Cards Against Humanity. It has more choices on the player's part and the illustrations add an additional layer of humor. |I played the game with a group of 4. It took us around 20 minutes to learn the rules and play through it. It can be played with 2 or more players, but as the player count increases, the playtime also increases. In the game, players collaboratively make 3 panel comics made up of question, response and compromise cards.| We all enjoyed the game quiet a lot, as it is easy to learn and quick to play. The card designs are great and the drawings are funny. The packaging is relatively small so it's easy to carry around. The card combinations led to some pretty funny moments that my friend group still references from time to time. |I think the Cards Against Humanity comparison is a good way to frame what type of game this is and if you are a fan of that game, you would probably enjoy this game. It has a lot of the same essence in terms of fun, but in addition, the mechanics has been elaborated on to create more choice for the players and make it more engaging. |Overall, we really enjoyed it and are planning to play it more in the upcoming weeks.
This game can be a lot of fun...with the right crowd! It's not really a family night game (and isn't marketed to be one). In the right setting, this is hilarious. The cards are suggestive and you have the opportunity to go for a bawdy laugh with every round. Although similar in structure to other games (including Horrible Therapist), this one feels more fun -- romance and conflict and passive aggressive responses are something we can all relate to! So far, the replayability level seems good -- especially if your playgroup keeps changing, but I don't see playing this for more than 20-30 minutes at a time.
Horrible Couple is really fun and easy to play. Heck, we had fun just looking at the artwork from The Oatmeal on all the cards! This game was a nice change from what we usually play when we get together with friends and much laughter and fun was had by all. Highly recommend!
This game is chock full of adult and dark humor! We really liked the design of many of the cards: the art for the "AWKWARDDDD" bear was hilarious just by itself (it'd make a good sticker!)The rules for this game are standard for what you would expect from a party game: very simple and straightforward. One thing we liked was the inclusion of the 2 player mode, which is rare for party games. We did find it to be a little hit or miss when the 2 cards drawn were better than the original 5 options, but I guess that's just the luck of the draw! It was better than nothing and nice to be able to play with just 2 people.A note: this game is very adult themed. I think I'll probably stick to Horrible Therapist in the future, but the adult theme will be a smash hit for some play groups! If you want dark, raunchy, explicit humor, than this game could easily be a 5-star for your playgroup.
I love games that allow for two person play considering everyone is so busy! My6 husband and I had some really good laughs with this. One thing I do wish is, being able to choose 2 response cards because part of the time, they made zero sense and it was more confusion than funny wild. When we got a good one though, it was really fun! We kept saying we would quit after this one but ended up playing for longer than either of us had expected. We are determine to get a streak of 2 or more because our marriage depends on it! ;)
Easy to play. Quick to setup. Quick to play. Great party game. Artwork is great like all the games in the EK family. Good mix of "boring" cards and completely unhinged hilarious cards. Laughed a lot! Theme is unique. Only thing keeping from 5 stars is that the game mechanic is pretty familiar to some other games out there.
I've never played horrible therapist, but if the concept is similar to this game, it feels like a slightly more organized form of joking hazard. Rather than one big pile of cards, there's a slightly more curated pile of three sets. Things often still don't make much sense as a three panel comic, but when they do, it can be pretty funny.I appreciate the 2 player date night option, though it's essentially like playing cards with randomly extra cards. Coincidentally going to a wedding this weekend and am planning to bring it due to its very fitting themed, so hopefully I can edit this review or make a follow up with added folks feedback!
If you've played Cards Against Humanity, you'll feel right at home with Horrible Couple. It's another party game that thrives on shock value, dark humor, and wildly inappropriate combinations. The premise is simple: match outrageous prompts with even more outrageous responses, often with a romantic or relationship-themed twist. Our friends thought some of the cards were very funny, but overall the game was similar to Cards Against Humanity.
If you like Cards Against Humanity you'll like this game. If you own Cards Against Humanity you may or may not want to buy this game. It's essentially the same thing but with an extra step. It is a nice improvement on the basic premise in that the dealer gets to choose a card instead of merely reading the ones given to him. That helps keep the momentum. Is it fun? Sure, but so is Cards Against Humanity. Would I play it again? Probably, if someone else wanted to.
