I have been using the machine since it was delivered and I really like the ease of how everything is: Changing Foot, threading bobbin, threading needle, etc. One thing they need to add is more brightness for the light. Maybe its just my old eyes, but I had to get my goose neck desk lamp and place it behind the machine to help me see better. I had a Brother sewing machine a long time ago and this machine is so much quieter. So far on things that I have mended or sewn I have used the buttons on the machine and not the foot pedal. I did try the foot pedal out and works very well. I guess if I was sewing a long curtain, I would then use the foot pedal. I did a couple of stitches and have a picture to show below. Also, I like the fact that you can remove a part of the machine and hem pant legs so much easier. The extended table that comes with it is nice too. But I have not mended anything so far that I needed to use the table. Also, you are able to thread a bobbin without having to unthread your needle. All you need to do is remove the pincushion and place the extra thread holder in the slot and take it from there. It is mentioned in the Janome Instruction Book. After I use the machine each day, I do put the cover back on to ensure it stays dust free. And remember if you do this, make sure that you take the cute little pin cushion off or it might break. All in all this is a great little machine and has worked perfectly for what I have needed. VERY IMPRESSED
This sewing machine does 100 different stitches and has a guide that you can attach to the sewing machine for easy accessibility. The guide is also large print so it is easy to read. And it has 22 accessories with it. Which includes several bobbins, an easy bobbin, organ needles, seam ripper, cleaning brush, 4 different presser feet, several caps to hold the thread in place, tool for the screws, spacer bar, a pincushion that connects to the sewing machine (really cool), and a second thread holder that attaches to the machine. This second thread holder is really useful. It is made so that you can reload a bobbin with another spool of thread than the one that you are using to sew with. That way you don't have to keep threading the sewing machine. Very nice feature. The sewing machine has a built-in needle threader. It works so much better than ones I have used before. Every time that I have threaded the needle it works on the first try. Instead of taking several times before it works. As I was unpacking the sewing machine and looking at all the different parts and pieces it was easy to tell that this is a very well constructed machine. It is not to heavy and is easy to transport with or without the case due to the handle on the top of the sewing machine. And it is an actual handle. Not just an area of the sewing machine that is formed in the shape of a handle. I was really surprised by this sewing machine when I got it out of the box. I have been using sewing machines for most of my life and have never owned one this nice before. It is the size of a normal sewing machine. And has a cover that is nicer than some that I have seen. The cover didn't wiggle all around like others I have had. It actually fits on it.
My old old Pfaff finally gave up so my husband did some product review searches and came up with this machine. I work for Walmart and never thought of buying a machine at my store. I am very happy with this machine, it does everything I need it to and I love the extension table soooo much. The little pin cushion that attaches to the top cracks me up!
I have had my old sewing machine since my high school graduation 50 years ago, and I decided to check out the current models for some hobby projects I was working on. I went to three sewing shops and found many different brands and was given short demos at each of the stores. I believed the Janome machines were the best for my needs and while searching online I found the best deal for me at Walmart.com. It was easy to learn how to wind a bobbin, automatically thread the needle, and the automatic sewing feature that does not require a foot pedal. I have the option of 99 decorative stitches and an automatic button hole presser foot as well as other accessories.
This Janome is an excellent machine for the price. The extension table and hard cover are definitely a plus. This machine sews a perfectly balanced stitch. The 1/4" foot and dual feed foot are perfect for any quilting project! This is my third Janome machine, and it lives up to the Janome reputation. This machine was purchased for my daughter who has experience with quilting and has sewn on all of my machines. She is very pleased with this machine.
This is my second sewing machine. First time using the Janome brand. This Janome JW8100 is my first computerized sewing machine. Also my first time seeing one with a hundred different stitches. Before this I only had 14 different stitches. One feature I'm already in love with is that it can thread the needle for you. I followed the instructions which seemed to good to be true. It worked! I can't tell you how. But it worked. I was looking at it & doing it, yet I still don't understand how it threaded the needle. But it did. Though I have some experience with a sewing machine I read the manual before actually using it. I know your supposed to, but I don't always do this. I would suggest it. It kept me from panicking. I would've thought I had broken it if I hadn't read about using the start/stop button on the machine. Which is also another feature I like. The start/stop button doesn't work when you have the foot control connected. The screen will also remind you of that if you push the start/stop button when the foot control is connected. Third I like that it has a speed control slider. If you want your foot control or start/stop button to go no faster than medium speed, you can set the speed control slider for it to do just that. A fourth feature that I like is the up/down button for the needle. Other things I count as a plus is the extra set up available to thread a bobbin without having to unthread the sewing machine. It does not come with thread. It comes with 6 different presser foots, extra wide table add on, and a cute little pin cushion amongst other accessories. A chart of the 100 stitches (#0 - #99) comes with it & you can attach it to the sewing machine. In case you ever misplaced it, they have the same stitch chart in the manual. I love that the manual tells you the tension & presser foot to use with each stitch pattern. It also tells suggest fabrics to use with each stitch along with other helpful instructions. Threading was easy and it has guides to follow that helps. I haven't used it for anything but test stitching on some scrap pieces of material. But I like the way it works so far. Time & projects will tell me more about how well or not so well that it works. No complaints at all now. Seems like a well oiled & running machine to me!
Janome machines are known as steady, hardworking machines and this one is a workhorse. I have another that is bigger with a lot of bells and whistles but needed a machine lighter to take to sewing classes. Totally fits the bill but still solid, smooth sewing and lighter to transport. Ease to use out of the box with a great instruction manual if you're a beginner or a seasoned sewer. I would totally recommend this machine for any level if you want performance.
This machine is very easy to use. It comes with everything you need to make your project. I pulled it out of the box and started to sew and I have never use a machine that is so easy to use. I have had other machines that it takes month to learn to use them, and there is always something that is not quite right with my projects in the end. This machine comes with a needle threader, drop in bobbin, and a collection of presser feet to help you get your job done in a jiffy. Love Janome machines, I've been using them for two years now, and they are great. They come ready and you don't need to buy accessories seperatly in order to use the machine.
I purchased and returned a computerized brother and Janome machine before settling on this model. It's the first time that I tried the Janome brand. It's sturdy, quiet, and has a very good stitch quality. It also comes with an extension table and many accessories! I was able to set it so that it always stops with a needle in the down position. I haven't figured out how to turn off the beeping sound yet, but there's probably a way. It has a high and wide area to the right of the needle, which allows a lot of space for quilted or bulky projects. The only thing missing is an automatic thread cutter.
This machine has 100 different stitches which are pretty cool, including numerous zigzag, embroidery, buttonhole, and quilting stitches. It has a very nice table extension, and is heavy enough to stay in place on your table while you're working. It's very easy to thread the machine, and even has an automatic needle threader, although I generally find it easier to just thread the needle by hand. Has lots of buttons to control the various functions, including buttons to lift the needle, reverse stitch, control the stitching speed, and a start/stop button. It is computerized to allow selection of the various stitches as well as stitch width and length. It operates smoothly and quietly, and is great for sewing together flat pieces of material. I found, however, that it doesn't do so well when trying to sew over layers of seamed materials or when multiple layers come together, such as assembling quilting pieces. It seems to lack the power to travel smoothly over uneven surfaces. It is also very slow when winding a bobbin (even with the speed control set at the highest speed). So, if you're looking to add some fancy stitching to your projects, this is certainly the machine for that. But I don't recommend it for quilters.
