Janome MOD-8933 3 and 4 Thread Serger with Differential Feed

This is a nice, basic, compact serger suited to those just getting started in a sewing hobby, or for making clean seams for your clothes at home. It does not take up much space, and I can put it next to my sewing machine for easy access. Thanks to its rubber feet it stays in one place while sewing, and the stitching is uniform and precise. I like the high-speed use and have had no problem with knotting or tangling. I had a bit of trouble doing circular edging, but this is something that I'll master in time. Instead of having to screw the foot on and off its snap on/off feature is convenient and great! Another great feature is its longer power cable; you don't have to keep your machine close to an electrical outlet. Another important feature for me is that Janome provides a really nice machine dust cover. This is important because dust and animal fur (if you have pets) can get into your serger and cause malfunctions of all sorts. This is something that many users overlook. For basic serging and cost, this is a nice little machine. Thank you for taking the time to read my review.

This machine looks like it will be a interesting addition to my new adventure in sewing. This is my second time seeing a serger and my first time actually using one. I would suggest reading the manual before using it unless you already have experience using a Serger. It shows & helps you to see how to do different finishes along with the tension settings, fabric, type of needles, type of thread, length, differential ratio etc.... Appreciated by a beginner like me. Janome MOD-8933 Serger comes with a video to introduce you to threading this machine. The video can also be found on you tube. It looks like a old video, but educational and informative. It shows how to thread two different types of sergers. I personally haven't tried threaded it myself yet. But do plan on doing so soon. I didn't have to thread it to try it out because it comes threaded for you. This is a plus. It comes with four spools of thread and ready for a test run straight out of the box. I haven't tried either one of the three stitch methods, rolled hem, etc.... As I stated before in so many words I am new to using a Serger. But I can see great projects ahead after getting over the fear of using it for the first time. It's color coded to help with the threading process just as the video shows. I would suggest watching YouTube videos to see how to change the threads without having to rethread the machine. But it's important to know how to do it yourself just in case the need comes. Its almost magical how it cuts & gives a professional hem all at one time. I just did test stitches on scrap fabric. Time will tell the quality of it, but I have no complaints thus far. Looking forward to learning to use it and find out the full potential of my new addition!

The Janome MOD-8933 Serger Overlock with Lay-In Threading, Wide-Open Threading, 3 and 4 Thread Convertible with Differential Feed is an extremely nice machine. Although I have been sewing for most of my adult life, this product is my first serger machine. And after using it for a few weeks I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a beginner serger machine. I have to admit I was very intimidated at first by the 4 different spools of thread, but the machine came right out of the box fully threaded. I watched the video that came in the box to better understand how to thread it myself and how to set up the different tensions and loop lengths. The video was very helpful. The machine seems to be very well made and allows me to do new types of sewing that I had never done before. Each thread pathway is color coded to make threading the unit as simple as possible. The compartment doors allow great access to the lower portion of the unit for threading, cleaning and oiling. If you are looking for a beginner machine, or even a mid-level serger machine, then the Janome MOD-8933 Serger Overlock with Lay-In Threading, Wide-Open Threading, 3 and 4 Thread Convertible with Differential Feed is the product for you.

This serger is great. I love how easy it is to thread. I have always been afraid to thread a serger but this one is very easy to thread. The feet along the threaders and cutter work well to make a great seam. I like how easy this serger is to clean. I can clean this serger but do keep my yearly cleaner to a professional. This serger does not get the fabric clumped up or snagged, the fabric flows through smoothly.

Great little machine. No, it isn't a BabyLock but then, for the price -- who cares! It is easy to use and comes with a DVD how-to for beginners. I still love my BabyLock Imagine -- but I'd love to have 2 more of these also! Hey, I just might do that!

I had 3 brother sergers and all had the timing go out no matter how careful I was. I have had this machine a year and a half. It is much sturdier than my brother sergers were. It is a little different to thread than the brothers, but actually easier

When you first see the Janome MOD-8933 Serger Overlock with Lay-In Threading, it's intimidating but once you realize that once you felt the same way about your first Sewing Machine. Than there's the threading it which if you follow the directions make it simpler than you might think. Once I got that down peck everything else simply fell into place. My first test was to put elastic in a skirt and after several attempts that went Ok. Now that I'am more comfortable I'am in the process of flat locking two pieces of material leaving loose enough so that it want puff up. Ladies and gentlemen, if you sew and don't have a serger you are missing one of the greatest tools ever. Now don't get me wrong it's not quite as your sewing machines but to me it a heavier peice of machinery. AmI glad I have one, you darn right I am, In-fact I am beginning to think I like it better than my sewing machine although I'am not as comfortable with it yet. The overall quality is, it's pretty darn good piece of equipment and base on the size, it's smaller than your average sewing machine in which iI like. I'am sorry but I'am literally amazed of the potential I see in the future with it.

I love it ,but there is one feed for the bottom looper that is hidden , it came unthreaded when I put the cover on it, it took me 4 days to find it. I watched u-tube tutorials and the one that came with the machine couldn't find it finally put a small flash light in my mouth turned the machine on it's back and finally found it. It will be easier next time. I worked in a factory that made foundation garments for yrs we used Serger's thought I would know how to thread it didn't happen, that one is a bugger to find . All is good now.

Great serger and well worth the money. It was difficult at first to get it threated correctly. However, the included DVD was excellent and after a few tries I had it up and running!

Less than a 1, got it out of the box, plugged in and nothing. Had to take back immediately
