Jiffy Natural & Organic Seed Starter Mix, 12 QT, Garden Soil

This seed starter is excellent and is perfect for seed starting. I have attempted to make my own over the years, to save money, that resulted in a myriad of issues. I now only purchase the Jiffy seed starter. It is largely wood free, which is hard to find nowadays. I just add warm water directly to the bag and then put the moist starter in my cells. One bag lasts approximately two and a half trays if putting in small cells and one and a half trays of large cells. My only recommendation would be to produce bags with bigger volume and of course always want lower price where possible.

I almost feel guilty rating this stuff I have a repotting garden on the balcony of my apartment I sneak out in the morning and steal clippings from other people's plants come back to my balcony and repot with this stuff so far 6 months I haven't lost a plant and I haven't been arrested yet. this stuff in California weather work perfectly together for potting or repotting plants

I got this to use when I am transplanting seedlings from my aerogardens into planter containers, and it is perfect for that. It is packed really dry, so the bag holds a lot of the potting soil, but you need to soak it good before planting anything in it. A lot of the potting soil is already wet, so it is a lot heavier to carry around than this is, but you are actually getting a lot more than you realize, once you have added water and let the potting oil reconstitute.

Seems the tniest seeds get lost in loose dirt. These seem to cradle them and keep them afloat until they get their first set of leaves. Not foolproof, but seems to help. And a thin layer of seed starter soil on top to provide nutrition. MIST them at first, multiple times per day. The pellets retain the moisture for the seeds. Good luck.

This was perfect for my 72 cell seed starter trays to start my vegetable garden seeds indoors for the season! Affordable, good amount of soil, and my seeds sprouted within a couple days so they were very happy with it :)

I am new to starting seeds indoors for the garden this year and a friend recommended this brand to me. I really like it and nearly all of my seeds that I planted in this potting seed mix grew. I also mixed it into some garden soil to use in my outside planters and they are thriving. I will definitely be purchasing this again and again!

I am a first time gardner and I cant even say that because the season has not ended. What I will say I did use this to start my seedlings and to keep them indoors for about 3 weeks before moving out doors. I had great germination and seedlings were healthy and now they have there permanent home our side. Now I am working on second round for fall harvest.

This is a great seeds starter. Originally, I bought this to use as a medium for my micro-green seeds sprouting. For this use, I did not like it, it's time consuming at harvest time because I have to wash off the soil thoroughly before I can eat my sprouts. It works great as seed starter for my herbs garden, only one negative using this indoor, moist soil attracts lots gnats. I dislike them, but I can eradicate them with a mixture of cider vinegar, dawn dish soap and plain white sugar in a bowl, WHAM! THEY disappeared in a couple days. The price could be better.

Sounded like a great product on paper, and the ingredients are the same ones I typically use to build multiple own base soil (peat), so I was surprised to find that this particular peat is extremely hydrophobic in comparison to any other peat product I’ve ever used before. So much so, that the water literally is just rejected from the surface of the material despite coming in contact with it for a long duration of time. - to combat this I opted to add a quart of worm castings to this mix which allowed it to finally take on water but it’s performance is yet to be seen still. I also found it to have a slight mildew smell which is never a good sign so there may be some bad pathogens in this mix as well which could hinder seed growth.

I was disappointed with this seed starter mix. The biggest problem is that it doesn't absorb water properly at all. Even after keeping water on it for a long time, the water just sits on the surface while the soil underneath stays dry. I expected a seed starter mix to soak moisture evenly, but this one didn't work that way for me. Because the inside remained dry, it made me worry about proper seed germination and root growth. I had to keep checking and mixing it myself just to get moisture through the soil. Overall, it was frustrating to use and didn't perform as expected. I wouldn't buy it again.
