[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Bought two 72 peat pod trays for starting wild flower mixes. Followed instructions, felt pods were too wet but stuck few seeds in each, covered, with domes and seeing sprouts 48 hours later. See photo.
Great for getting a head start 6-8 weeks before last frost. As time goes by and I see I put to many seeds in one pellet, I cut 4 cuts with scissors on the corn starch mesh to give the roots more room to grow. These expanded peat pellets are easily moved to a a 2" square peat, or 3" round peat pot if more room is needed. If winter won't let go I re-pot the 3" to 4" to gain more time. The thing I like the most is a seed doesn't grow, you've only wasted 6-8 weeks of watering a pellet that didn't grow and the pellet can be used later. Also, I have very few clear lids, so that is always a bonus to get the clear lid. The Kelp based starter is great and not to overpowering for germination. 5 Stars! Highly Recommend!
This seed starter is working really well. Within 2 days I am seeing little sprouts. Not having an issue with mold. Not sure if it makes a difference but, I put mine in the sunshine outside during the day and bring it indoors at night. Very happy with this product. Much easier than germinating my seeds in a paper towel and ziplock. Today is day 3. Including pictures.
I have been using these to start our seeds for the last few years and we couldn't be happier. The plastic is somewhat thin and flimsy and sometimes you need to put something heavy on the top to make sure it stays down well but other then that the pods fill with water which, it's easy to insert seeds and they start growing fast. The top allows the moisture to stay inside and you can see it getting watered off all its collected although you will have to water itself eventually. We take them outside once it starts to warm up before we transfer to the ground. Getting ready to get some more for more growing.
Great to start seeds in. Remember not to leave them in direct sun all day.
All in one seed starting package. Included grow light, mat , seed starter with pods , even vegetable seeds. Lots of great variety on the seeds too. Really like that it all came together & convenient.
I'm new to seed starting and don't have a lot of space in my house so I wanted a light that would fit on my bookshelf. I have a low frustration level and I also become overwhelmed easily, so reading all the websites about lights, potting soil, seed starting, etc. almost made me quit. Then I saw an ad for this complete kit. 1. It fit on my shelf. 2. Having an all in one setup is just my speed. 3. The setup has a replaceable bulb. 4. I didn't have any flower seeds, so this made it easy. 5. The instructions for the stand weren't the greatest but it's such a simple stand, it was easy to figure out. The rest of the instructions were great. 6. I put the heat mat and light on a timer. 7. Some might think the set is expensive, but compared to running out and getting all the different components that might not work well together, or having to order them separately, this worked for me. 8. I planted 72 pods in no time at all. Now I just have to wait and watch.
I received the 72 pellets, put the lid is broken and I did not receive the sample 36 pellets.
They melt!!! I got a dozen mixed of the 36 and 72 pellet kits to start some perennials for this winter. I sat them in my greenhouse, on a shaded shelf where I keep all my other trays and pots without issue, that weekend I harvested my seeds and when I went to plant them I found this mess of melted containers. It's October so far from hot, 82°F was the hottest day they saw and the rest were in the 60's. My greenhouse is open all day and not heated so it stays about the same as outdoor temps right now plus it's shaded by 1:30pm this time of year. I'm mind blown at how delicate this plastic is.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I purchased two packages and had 144 starter pods. I filled each pod with 3 or more seed from five packages of Johnny jump ups, violas. In 4 weeks I only have 36 starters.
