Kidde Dual Sensor Smoke Alarm, 85 Decibels, KIDDE

I received the Kidde model PI9010 smoke alarm for an unbiased review. This smoke alarm is powered by one 9 volt battery and it came inside the package which was nice. I have bought or ordered smoke alarms before that did not come with the batteries, so this one actually allows you to install it as soon as you get it home, even if you yourself are out of batteries. The faster the better when adding a smoke detector, if it's not powered on it's useless! The battery was easy and quick to install. There are no other wires, it simply can be installed to your ceiling or wall easily with the included mounting bracket. You can even just set it somewhere for a quick spot until you can put it in a higher location. This smoke alarm combines dual sensor technology including both photoelectric and ionization sensors. The ionization sensor helps quickly detect invisible fire particles from fast flaming fires and the photoelectric sensor quickly detects visible particles from slow smoldering fires. This smoke alarm contains a few different features, including a flashing red light to show that the unit is operating ‘properly', a hush button to silence an alarm, and a test button to make sure the smoke alarm's sound is working. I would prefer the blinking LED light to be green instead of red, because when I see red I automatically think it is not working or the battery is dying. Green to me means go and I would think that would mean it's working properly. I guess I should think red for fire protection. If the battery is low the smoke alarm will chirp (make a slight noise) once in a while. The hush button silences the alarm and decreases the sensitivity for 10 minutes. The alarm is a loud 85 decibel alarm. This smoke alarm is light, easy to handle, and measures about 7-8 inches in diameter. The unit has the manufacturer date listed and has a 10 year warranty; however, they require you to check the unit once a week. This alarm will not work if the temperature is too cold or too hot. It is made to work between 40 and 100 degrees Fahrenheit. This smoke alarm complies with the following organizations: UL, FHA, HUD, and NFPA. This is made in China. I have used this for about two weeks and so far so good. I recommend it because it works well, has a hush button, and contains both photoelectric and ionization sensors.

We bought these to update the smoke alarms in the house after my kids had Fire Prevention Week at school. They are easy to install and the kids appreciate the blinking light they lets them know it's working. This model had great reviews and so far not complaints.

Kidde Dual Sensor Smoke Alarm has several features that are a vast improvement over other models. Dual sensors (photoelectric) for slow burning and (ionization) for fast moving fire. Loud alarm. Has chirp notice when batteries need replacing. Best of all... a hush button to quickly silence the alarm !! Sturdy well made design with super easy fast mount.

I bought this model 2 years ago and it has worked without issue. Good to have two sensor types to pickup varied gases/smoke from smouldering vs flaming fires. Wish they made this in a CO detect combo option. No change in my utility bills noticed LOL (i am an energy engineer)

I have had these for 5 years in bedrooms with no issues. Previous post stated these are junk and do not buy is not accurate. All specs and installation sheets specifically state that these are NOT to be installed in a kitchen area or entrance to a kitchen area as it will cause false alarms. User bears the responsibility to properly install these devices as per the recommendations. This post was due to misapplication of the product not a defective product. Dual sensor alarms are very sensitive to detect 2 types of fires and are designed for bedrooms.

Ionization detect invisible fire particles, flaming fires, sooner than photoelectric alarms. Photoelectric sensors detect visible fire particles, smoke, sooner than ionization alarms. This detector has a hush button, when you burn something, so you can silence the alarm for 10 minutes why you clear the air. This Kidde smoke detector has a 10 year limited warranty and that same old annoying chirp when the battery needs to be replaced. This detector has 4 posts that you break off so it makes it more difficult for children and others to be able to remove the detector from the trim ring. It comes with very good user guide and installation instructions. This Kidde smoke detector complies with the Underwriters Laboratories (UL), Federal Housing Administration (FHA), Housing and Urban Development (HUD), and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA).

I received the Kidde Dual Sensor Smoke Alarm Through the Spark Reviewer program. My old smoke alarm no longer worked and I needed a replacement. I was hesitant to use this alarm as It had a larger diameter than the previous one. I removed my broken one and read the installation instructions of this one. All I had to do was line the Bolt holes up to the existing ones on the wall. It Didn't matter that the diameter of this one was Larger. It fit perfectly and was easy to install. I tested the test button and it worked perfectly. It Was loud enough to hear all over the house. I then Lit a match below it to see if it would sense smoke Properly. Again it went off perfectly as required. It also has a feature to turn off the loud alarm. This button would only Be used in cases where the smoke was, for Example, made from the smoke of burnt toast But no fire danger was eminent. This feature Also worked perfectly. I was very pleased with How easy this was to install.

Loved the fact it said no wiring, and the hush button sounded great. But, the reality is: I used this for quite a while, hoping to sort out the bugs. False alarms, humidity from the bathroom sets it off. And the one time I actually had a smokey kitchen, it did not go off at all. I have changed the batteries several times and it does not help. Also, the silence button does not stop the alarm. I do not recommend this product.

All the instructions to insert the battery are engraved in white raised plastic with white background. Nearly impossible to read! None of the printed pages have the battery instructions.
