This is the perfect base for homemade hot and sour soup. Add some shiitake mushrooms, bamboo shoots, carrots, white pepper, eggs and green onions and it's as good as a restaurant!

If you have ever had egg flower soup at a Chinese restaurant it is just like that. I mean exactly like that. For me that is the most important part. I love this and will keep on hand in my storage shelves as long as I can afford it. That is the only thing... it is pricey but I can afford a couple of packages on the shelf. Overall, products from Kikkoman are all capable for 5 stars.

Admittedly, this is just a little bit of powder in a bag with a book of ingredients, so it's not mom's homemade hot and sour soup - but it tastes like it! Be sure to mix the soup into COLD water and then boil. Don't forget to stir in an egg at the end. Enjoy.

SO easy to make, just add it to 2 1/2 c water and make it boil. Gently add a well-beaten egg. I say GENTLY because I don't know about you, but I like bigger pieces of egg in my soup. It has a great taste, just as I remember it!! Yeah, I know it says Egg Flower Soup and underneath says, "Hot and Sour" but it's not that spicy OR sour. It tastes like a combo of the regular egg drop soup and hot and sour soup that you'd get at Chinese restaurants! I balked a little bit at the price ($3.72) but it was well worth every penny. Oh, yes...DON'T forget to get the La Choy 5-oz can of chow mein noodles for the soup. It's the kinda squat can vs. the tall can. (The tall can is Asian-Fusion style or something like that, and they're REALLY thin. NOT the kind you'd usually use in soup.) Also, since you're eating hot soup, don't forget the tissues for your runny nose!

Discovered hot and sour soup then the aircraft carrier I was aboard visited Japan. Developed a taste for it and was grateful to find it in an easy to use package. Enjoy unusual tastes as often as I can.

This is an okay base but really isn't much without some add ins. I added some sesame oil, frozen sliced mushrooms, a few rice noodles, ginger paste, and a quick dash of rice wine vinegar.

For a quick meal this is on my list, beside adding an egg for nutrition, I add chopped spinach leaves, and one finely sliced mushroom. Wonton noodles or plain rice on the side an option!

Boil water, stir in an egg and that's it. As good or better tasting than the average fare you find at many restaurants. Makes two hearty servings. More or less depending on serving size of course. Two approximately 12 ounces each servings.

I am sure this is tasty. However my teenage daughter made this selection and did not pay attention to it being hot and sour not an egg drop soup. Their other soup mixes I do enjoy and so does she. That is the reason I gave it 5 stars based off my experience with their other flavors.

The 4-pack pricing suddenly jumped from $6.16 to $17 in February whereas single pack remains the same at $1.63? Please take a look and fix the mispricing.
