I chose the K'NEX Thrill Rides - Web Weaver Roller Coaster Building Set - 439 Pieces - Ages 9 and Up - Construction Educational Toy as my son, since he was little, has told us he wants to be an engineer. Honestly, he's nine now and I admit it's been hard to pull him away from the video games, so I wasn't sure what to expect. He's already abandoned his Legos. I have to say; my son was thrilled when the box arrived. He immediately got to work putting this together. I wasn't sure if he'd be able to do it alone, but I was still working at the time, so I had to leave him to his ministrations until I was finished working. Surprisingly, he finished before I did! It didn't take him long at all (approximately one and a half hour +/-) and he never needed any help. Obviously, this set does have small pieces, so depending on your child, he or she may need adult supervision and/or assistance. He said he rated it a “10/10” when I asked him, and noticed he played with it after completed a few times, but I admit, he's already abandoned it. So, I think these sets are great, I just don't know if they can hold their attention long.
My son is a huge fan of K'nex, but I am not so much. However, this Web Weaver Coaster was definitely one of the coolest options I've seen so far. I love that the track is glow in the dark, so they can see their handiwork in the dark. I also like that it's a self-propelled car, so it gives them a lot more options on how to build the track. They can do a horizontal or vertical design, and it will works ok. I will preface this by saying that K'Nex are nothing like legos, and parents need to understand that K'nex pieces are harder to put together. You have to make sure everything is facing the right direction, you have to make absolutely sure you have the right piece, and if you make a mistake, going back to fix it can mean undoing a lot of work. My son is very patient and detailed, and has been into building toys for years. Other kids have not had the patience, so just be aware of that when buying this. This is not a toy they can put together quickly and start playing. It took my 10 year old about an hour to put it together on his own, but he's spent hours more "tweaking" the design to his liking. Again, this is a fantastic toy if you have a patient child who likes to tinker.
K'nex are great fun fun kids of all ages!, even adults can't help themselves from playing with them. They are so much fun to build as well as educational. Then when they are put together they are great to play with. You can set multiple sets up up together so everyone can join in the fun!!. The bright colors and the moving parts add to the fun. You can add to the collection on special events so the fun just grows. I put the sets in plastic containers that lock so the little one can't get into the small pieces and put them in their mouths and choke. I use a marker to lable the containers so they can they can identify the set. These are fun for all and I highly recommend these K'nex sets for anyone that enjoys having fun!.
When I was a kid and went to any theme or ride park I would look up at the roller coaster and say who built this thing. Now your child can build their own idea and have it run. It amazing how they developed science and construction in a toy. You have to use your mind to construct your own ride using the 439 pieces they provide in this set. Talk about having fun but, seeing their face as they have completed it is so wonderful. You will keep hearing about it everyday. You have fun while learning it's a great gift.
My eleven year old loves doing crafts, puzzles, and just making things. So, I thought this K'Nex Web Weaver Roller Coaster building set would be right up her alley. She opened the box and started working on it. The Instruction manual does not have many words in it. There are more pictures with arrows pointing to things. Well, my daughter was able to build the structure of the coaster with no trouble. Then it was time to connect the coaster track. Well, that is when I had to get involved because things started getting a little bit confusing and frustrating for her. As my husband watched us work on the tracks that kept coming apart, he decided to step in and offer us some assistance. It was well needed too! He was able to see that some of the things we did were not quite right. After about an hour we had the tracks completely assembled. My daughter had charged the little air propelled car the night before. So, she put it on the tracks and OMG! It was so cool watching this car zoom around the structure we put together. It went so fast! My husband played with and tweaked the track for a while after my daughter and I had left…LOL. The tracks also glow in the dark, and the car is quite noisy when it is on. I think this would be a great toy for the right child. If your child likes to build things, like a lot of pieces to put together, and likes to troubleshoot problems this toy is for him or her!
As my review title says, this is a special type of “toy” and I say that because this is nit anything like the building sets your child is used to. This stuff takes concentration and commitment. My 12 year was having a good time playing with thenkartsbuntil we decided to actually make the item in the directions and that's when it went left....he got frustrated, annoyed, and lost interest after reading g through these directions. Now I could show pics of the random parts put together but you can see that anywhere so I'm going to show you the instruction book. This is not something for the easily distracted. In fact, even my husband walked away from it about half way through lol. In my opinion, it's a great brain tool. If you can get your kids to focus, they'll be busy for hours!
This roller coaster set is so cool even I wanted to play with it. It is a buildable roller coaster that you can put into action once you finish it. My kids were very satisfied with this toy and loved putting it together. This helps children learn construction skills. It works their minds which every parent wants. This is definitely a great gift for any child
This was the first time our son was interested in building something with us and he loves it. I must admit, it was a little confusing at first, but I tend to focus on the easier-looking creations first and it got easier. When putting the green claws on the tracks, be careful with how much force you exert because my husband broke a rung of a track quite easily. Also, when you get the car moving, the tracks don't stay on the claws no matter which way you lay the tower but the car stays on the track and that's the most important thing. Also, the car got stuck when we laid the tower horizontally but never got stuck in its vertical orientation. We love that you can create any track style that you want so it makes for plenty of fun times and kids won't get bored with it quickly. And the coolest part? It looks awesome in the dark and the batteries are rechargeable! Now, the only con is that the car is loud (sounds like an electric drill) but I'll take the sound of fun over nothing at all.
This is a good build set with creative think and some degree of coordination. It would be a great project for a Sunday afternoon. The set came with detailed step-by-step instructions with illustrations. There were no missing pieces. It took an adult about 5 hours to complete. The electric car presumably took equal amount of time or less to charge (it was plugged in at the start and worked fine after the roll coaster was completed). I was pretty amazed at how sophisticated the roller coaster was designed how smooth the car can speed up and down the set. That's said, I believe there are a few things that one should be cautious about. First, the car travels extremely fast through the track and does not have illumination by itself. However the tracks are fluorescent. Therefore, if you plan to test this set in a dark room, please ensure to put safety googles on. As when in the dark, the whereabouts of the car could not be easily identified. At the speeds it travels, one could easily be hurt if the car flies off the track (not that it happened to me, but just to be pre-cautionary). Secondly, also because of the speed of the car, it actually mobilizes the entire roller coaster, making it shake and wobble, and relocate itself quite a bit. It gets a bit better when on the carpet. This is not a potential safety concern though.
We have had other K'NEX sets, but this was the first thrill set we ever attempted to put together. It looked awesome on the box. It came with 439 pieces and no extras. That's right. Don't lose or break any because there are no extras! My 13 year old worked on this for 4 hours before realising the parts she needed next were broken. Now there is a half constructed monolith and it's parts littered across her bedroom floor. It is very disappointing. Also the directions were not very good.
