This paint is great because it can be used on many types of surfaces. I especially like using it on plastic.
Great paint. Covers nicely and the smaller can is easy to stir.
I used Short Cuts to paint bottle caps. Because I had the time, I waited 48 hours between coats. Each coat dried completely, and the bottle caps are very attractive. I plan to seal them with a glossy clear coat for durability. I am very pleased with this product, and I will continue to use it for small projects.
I've used Krylon Short Cuts Gold Leaf several times now, and each time the projects have come out just as wonderfully as I hoped they would. The first project I used it on was to highlight intricate details on a French style solid wood vanity I was updating. I finished it with clear wax and it has held up without an issue for over a year now. The second project I used it on was glass treat jars with metal lids. I glued toy dogs to the jar lids and I adhered vinyl stencils to the glass, primed both sections with a universal bonding primer, sprayed them gold, and then sealed them with Krylon Cover Maxx Crystal Clear Acrylic in Satin. They turned out wonderfully and they were well received as gifts.
My purpose in using Krylon Short Cuts is painting models. I have used various model spray paints that have produced uneven results of success. I was reluctant to try Short Cuts, but have found it performs with (pun or no pun intended) FLYING COLORS! I don't get the "orange peel" effect as I often experience with other products sometimes. In my case, I use a light coat of primer on bare metal, and then as recommended, light coats passing over the object, respraying after it dries if necessary. And of course temperature / humidity are important considerations, as neither extremes are conducive to attaining acceptable results. The success I have experienced with Short Cuts prompted me to write a review as I want to share what had been a secret to me for so long.
Did do what I wanted it to do
I purchased Krylon Short Cuts. I was excited since it was a small size and cost less. It was okay sprayed on wood. Then I tried it on baked polymer clay. It is about 14 hours later and it is still tacky. It still has not dried and the project is ruined. I am very upset.
Bought a can of the Sun Yellow to apply over a very light gray primer on a model rocket. After three coats, the hide is absolutely awful compared to the old Krylon of 30 years ago. Perhaps it works only over white primer but now I am afraid to use the can of red I bought at the same time.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought four cans for a project. The red had no mixing ball and came out in globs, the yellow pigment was non existent, the green dried transparent. The purple was the only one that worked properly.
Put Styrofoam on my outside vents of the house, and didn't want to leave them white. I knew spray paint would melt Styrofoam, so researched and found Short Cuts. Says you can use on Styrofoam. Melted my expanded polystyrene I used. So I guess Styrofoam and polystyrene is not the same.
