First time I've touched Lego in 40 years and it's very different from back then. This is definitely a positive review but I'll start with the things I wasn't too pleased about... The instructions weren't as clear as they could have been in some parts. At times the same angle was shown three times in a row when you really needed to see it from the other side. A couple of pieces just fell off while turning it around, a prime example is the tail light assembly, that should have just been the last step. I never figured out why but the rear differential stopped working after I put the tyres on, I never got to the bottom of it after 3 attempts but I didn't know it was going to work like that until halfway through the build anyway. The pistons in the engine still move as expected so it doesn't matter. I had to take a little of it apart a couple of times (nothing major) because the instructions weren't too clear, and, admittedly, a couple of times because I rushed it a bit too much. I'm not a big fan of putting stickers on things but I know some people enjoy it. The instructions could have been a bit clearer for the steering wheel though, I just guessed because I didn't know what part of the car it was and put them on sideways. Doh! Personally I would rather the stickers were already on but that's just me. I really don't like the wheel covers protruding beyond the tyres, they look good side on but from any other angle they look silly, would have been better if they only covered the wheel, I'll probably just take them off. And now onto the good stuff... I could not put this down, I had to force myself to leave it and go to bed at night. In total, including unboxing, seperating pieces, building, taking a few pieces apart and rebuilding I think it took about 22 hours but I am a complete beginner. It looks amazing (despite the wheel covers), the attention to detail is quite brilliant, I love the fact that the wing moves for DRS even though it doesn't look particularly realistic. It was amazing fun to build, I'm now torn on what to buy next, I fancied the Ferrari 488 GTE “AF Corse #51” but so many tiny stickers is really putting me off. Still plenty of others to choose from though. All in all this is a great model and good value at the price.
Absolutely had to get my hands on this as soon as I heard, as an avid F1 and McLaren fan. Built over two days (probably 10/11 hours of consistent build time), and I've never built a Technic kit before. Haven't even used Lego since I was a kid! Had so much fun building this, and she is just stunning. Loved getting to work the intricate suspension the most. Stickers though - these were my nemesis! Would defo prefer these to come already on the parts.. and I have small fingers.. All in all, I love it and want to get more technic kits now!
LEGO Technic products tend to hit the mark they set after and this model is no different. A larger model than I expected but with that comes a lot of good detail. Not a carbon copy of the 2022 car but very close. Easy recommendation for an F1 fan and a must buy for any McLaren fan
Great set to build and wow its big once complete. Loved the suspension set up and like others have mentioned the steering is a bit off but hey ho it's not like I'm attempting to corner the car at 160mph! My biggest gripe is the stickers - these need time and patience to place as get this wrong and the overall appearance is instantly spoilt - far too many in my opinion and should've been printed on the bodywork pieces to ensure the finished look is 100%. Big F1 fan and this I believe is a great kit and build experience.
I really enjoyed the build, the push rod suspension was really well implemented, the design was very much in tune with the real car, being a huge F1 fan this was a must, a fairly quick build but the end product looks awesome.
I thoroughly enjoyed this build, watching the car emerge from the build is fascinating. It's faithful to the original, with the complexity of the engine, suspension, front and rear wings really coming over to the builder This is the second large F1 car I have built, the build and the finish of each car is totally different reflecting the different design / race years. I highly recommend this excellent build…..
Just finished this, took roughly 9 hours, thoroughly enjoyed every step and minor details, was brought by my wife for my 31st
I was hesitant to build this as I'm an F1 fan and a Danny Ric fan so after he left, I didn't want to get this - but I'm thrilled I bit the bullet and got this. It was an excellent build overall (even my 5yo son was helping) - The only visual problems I have with it is where the halo joins the car, you can see the grey size 3 pin holding it on both sides, maybe a couple of orange 1/2 grubs would have cleaned it up & also the Pirelli stickers on the wheel covers where from the start of the season, they could have been replaced with the Google emblems for a more realistic look. But overall, Im stoked with the way it turned out
Really enjoyed building this one and the end result looks great. Would be good to have the same set up in other teams as well. Love the tyres and detail especially the halo which makes it look like the real deal. The only thing I would suggest would be the stickers kind of make it look cheap. I think whilst I enjoyed sticking it on, I would think having the design printed on the brick would make it more authentic. Would recommend to anyone who enjoys F1, every details has been thought of and love the promotion videos as well.
I am an F1 fan so this was very exciting for me. While i enjoyed the build, i found the stickers to be too much of a nuisance (there are too many on this one). It did affect the overall experience a bit but a great model nonetheless to have in your collection.
