LG Electronics USB 2.0 Ultra Slim Portable DVD+/-RW External Drive

The Bottom Line: Would I buy this again or recommend it to someone I personally know? YES. The device does exactly what I needed it to do, read DVDs and Mini DVDs with my MacBook Air. The price was great and it is a known brand, not an off label so I'm hoping it will last a long time. The Pros: -Plug and play with my MacBook Air -Plays Mini DVDs and Normal DVDs -Plays CDs -Burns disks -USB Powered The Cons: -The plastic shell feels very light and thin -I would not feel safe putting this is a laptop bag and traveling with it as it seems like thin plastic -Need to buy a case for this device if you plan to take it everywhere you go, otherwise this is perfect for working at home. The Details: Im not going to review all of the specs as you can look at the manufactures website if you want geek out on specs. What I will do is tell you how I plan to use it. I needed a DVD player with a slide out tray to fit the Mini DVDs with my home movies from years ago. I also needed a DVD player for normal DVDs I watch. The apple branded player will not work with Mini DVDs, this LG works well. I plan to rip the DVDs into files and edit with with software I already have. That said the software it comes with I did not test out; however, it comes with free software and drivers. I did not need the drivers as the device works right out of the box with my MacBook Air running macOS Catalina 10.15.5. The device responds to the built in DVD player and iTunes controls. Burning a new disk with this LG device was also very easy using the built in tools on my computer. Thank you LG for a very handy device now my old movies are not lost on those old Mini DVDs. Does what I wanted

The product is nice. Works great! Only issue I have with it is the software dowload took forever, was annoying. I should have read the product description closer. Otherwise, love the compact, slim design, to fit easily into my laptop bag.

I bought this to play videos on my computer and it works great. It also shows that it can be used with a TV but I found only for digital video like MP4s, not DVDs. Not a problem for me but the documentation was not clear. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have owned this for a few years now. I received it as a gift. I've only used it a handful of times but, it worked just fine. It will read discs that the internal drive (same brand) in my desktop will not. That has been its primary use -- to serve as a backup when my primary drive doesn't function properly which, happens far too frequently.

I'm sure the burner works, but we were buying it to burn video files. This required purchasing and downloading additional software. At that point, it no longer made sense to go with the cheaper DVD burner.

This is less of a review, and more of a guide. If you're not able to burn a disc on Windows 10 ensure that you're connecting to a USB 2.0 (not 3.0) port on your computer. It would seem the device doesn't support USB 3.0 for writing purposes (reads are fine though).

for me it works but it sometimes skips files on a disc i think it may be because jamless play is also affecting data discs if there is a way to fix this i will give 5 stars [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Unit would not operate. Had to speak with customer support and was informed that the unit only came with version 8 and requires an update to version 11 - at an additional cost of $40.00! I returned the unit and will only get credit for the purchase price, not the shipping costs to send me the unit or the return!

I bought this DVD Writer from Amazon on February 24, 2018. When I got it, I plugged it in and tested it. It read a CD and it wrote a CD with no issues. I put it into a drawer and it just sat there for the past year and a half. Today I took it out to use it and it does not work. I plug it in and nothing happens. I tried it on 2 Desktops and 2 Laptops. Very disappointed in the quality of this product.
