These blinds have been around for at least 2 decades, and probably much longer. The older ones have pull strings to raise and lower them. These don't have that string. You just push up or pull down at the bottom. Installation is different than the old style. Those had plastic brackets that you screwed on top of the window frame. The brackets had sliding front pieces that secured the blind. The new models use a steel bracket that sits either under or over the blind, and clamps into a channel in the vinyl or plastic frame. They are easier to install. But, if you're replacing the old style, you'll have to completely remove the old brackets, possibly drill new holes and screw them on in vertical alignment on both sides. Then you insert the stick to open and close the slats. Note, that the new stick is incompatible with the old style, which had a steel hook for the stick. The new ones have a piece of plastic coming out the left side, which the stick plugs into via a compression fitting made of plastic. If you break that plastic part, you're S.O.L and will have to buy a new blind, or find a left over stick from a previous replacement when that blind broke. Note %232: Cats tend to destroy these blinds! Other than that, the blinds work fine. You can tilt the slats up or down to control the light, or raise or lower them. They occupy about 5 inches when fully raised (the same size as the box they came in).
We recently moved into a new home that needed new blinds throughout. Window coverings are so expensive and we already had so many projects taking money and time. We decided to try these, good enough for now kind of thing. So happy we did! They look great and are so cost effective. Easy to use, fit perfectly, do the job. If you don't want to go broke getting new blinds, these are a great option. If you have cats like we do that will likely break them, they don't cost a ton to replace. All good things.
My window had blinds when I moved in, but they were dryrotted. I wanted to put in a curtain rod and hang curtains,,, I realized that it would be easier to just hang a new blind, because the bracket was already there. I've decided to move out of state in a few months so didn't want something costly. I bought these because they were the only brand that had the size I needed and was within my price range. These are great! They fit perfectly. I was confused because there is no cord for raising/lowering. No cord for kids or pets to get tangled in! You simply pull down or lift with both hands. If I had more windows I would definitely buy more.
I really like the blinds except for one fact I ordered White and I'm trying to figure out. Why did they come a little darker than White? They came almost Beach but other than that it was very easy to install if I'm 75 and I could install it myself that's very easy.
I ordered a 31 inch and was sent a 34 inch. Customer service was not helpful nor responsive. Suggested that I reorder and I will receive my refund for the item to my original payment. I have yet to receive my refund. Also, when I reordered, I was charged a shipping fee of $9. So the refund would go to the shipping. That isn't fair at all!
In the first of the 3 I bought recently one was broken . that was not all when I went to open it the blind broke to pieces. And all 3 are hard to turn to open %26 close. One of them when lifted droops to one side. I had bought the same type several years ago with no problems but will not buy these again. I gave it a 3 star only because they do cover the windows.
I ordered 4 of the same blinds. 3 were new, but 1 had extra tape on it, which was my 1st sign. After getting it out the box, I noticed it was missing the end cap. I was going to accept that, but once I mounted it and pulled down on the blind, I saw a 10” piece of 1 of the 1” slats was broken, and completely missing. Now I have e to make another trip to the store and hope they have another 1 in stock.
These blinds can not even handle being opened one time. The first day they were hung, we opened them and they immediately began to crumble. If you so much as walk by the window, another piece falls off. I understand they were $7, but the quality is nonexistent. Absolutely junk.
They aren't white! They are a pinkish beige. It's obvious from the stark white carton. They're wrapped in that. The product inside is actually blush not white! So here I am in a new house short one set of blinds. I go to Walmart find what I need and I actually pay to have it delivered within 3 hours. Imagine my frustration when I look at it, open it up and the product is not white! Customer chat said they'll be happy to give me a refund when I return the product to the store. So what was the sense in all of this craziness when now I have to go to the store anyway! Complete waste of my time and money. I will never shop at Walmart again.
once installed i realized several cracked blinds and one was completely broken. went to take down so I could make a return and then bumped the blinds as I was removing them and a big chunk of them snapped off just from little impact. not sure what they are making the blinds with these days but will NOT be purchasing mainstay blinds ever again. Sad because I have used them for years but the quality and durability has gone down immensely. I have cats so I do need to replace them every 2-3 years from that but to have them already be cracking during install says a lot about the cheapness of this product. Very disappointed
