If you used to eating scallops you know how lovely it is to find a cheap source of them base scallops are usually more tender and sweeter than sea scallops also more affordable, usually. Though this Walmart price is truly remarkable. It's so nice to be able to routinely afford to buy my mother's favorite type of seafood. It's a great protein addition to any meal and I find that kids actually like them as long as you don't overcook them. So throw them in at the very last second as you can eat scallops raw. You can eat them raw they make amazing sushi but not Walmart scallops. A lot of seafood from department store frozen sections is lower quality this might be but the flavor is still there which is what I care about. Any dish that you would put shrimp and you can use scallops.
Just rinsed, pat dry, sautéed, added seasonings and bingo. Served HOT over pasta, cold served OVER pasta shells (medium) w/fresh tomatoes (roma variety) and avocado. Tried various salad dressings. It was an outright hot hit. These were NOT the huge type. Smaller in size. Once patted dry...placed in pan with butter and garlic and dill weed. Use your own seasoning choices. Cheers.
these bay scallops are delicious. great price. they cook up in minutes...but there is some prep for great tasting scallops. first these are frozen so they must be thawed and dried as much as possible. this way you get a tender scallop with a nice sear. taste great tossed with pasta, rice, or vegetables
Surprisingly there are a LOT of scallops in the package! Bay scallops are not the most flavorful shellfish but these were not rubbery and once thawed, had a nice fresh smell. Highly recommend. But don't expect a flavor bomb.
These shrink when cooked, so what you get to eat is about two-thirds of what you bought in the bag. A bit more flavor than the big ones. Easy to cook using cooking wine in a pan. They taste great, but are very expensive. One of those items you buy only when it goes on sale, so I wait until they go on sale again (for a hefty discount).
I hadn't eaten scallops for so long that I couldn't even remember if I liked them, so I bought this product. Well, I don't like them, but that's subjective; there's nothing wrong with the product. Pay attention to the package: "water added". It should read "lots of water added". When you fry or bake these, they shrivel up to one-third of their watery size. Products are "sold by weight, not volume"; water-packing has been an industry con for a long time. For example, steamable vegetables count the weight of the ice in the product weight, and ice is cheaper than the vegetable, etc. Nevertheless, if you like scallops and are willing to pay for the water, you'll like this product.
When I opened the package of scallops which had been in my freezer I was overcome by a horrible "rotten fish" smell which permeated my kitchen. I put half the bag in a container and ran cold water over them to defrost. When they were defrosted I picked one up and it was slimy. At that point I decided not to cook them. I would like a refund.
The quality is quite bad. The look of these is off, the smell of these are off, when cooking they are off for sight and taste. I don't think they are spoiled. They are of the lowest quality. They are the worst bay scallops I've ever had. They arr bad enough to not be sold. I threw out the entire bag when I tasted a small amount that I was going to add to a soup. The price is cheap and the experience isn't even close to a better product. They should not be sold. Who would love the worst? Please do better and go to a different store for your bay scallops. Jeez Walmart, jeez!
As soon as the scallops were thawed, they smelled like fish and not fresh. I let that go and prepared them and found I can eat none of them. Not a good experience for the first time buying and eating. I was hoping to like them for the protein value but I could not get past the taste. My dogs could not tell whether they wanted to eat them or not but they did eventually. I do not like waste.
DO NOT BUY. I WILL RETURN ALL OF THEM. The nutritional info LIES to you online. It has A LOT more sodium Less than half the protein Less than half the calories…but for the same price as the online nutritional info. NOT GOOD
