Max Fleischer's Superman: The Collection [Blu-ray]

This is a nicely-mastered release of these cartoons - they are in the public domain so they are not hard to find on budget discs, but Warner Brothers has given these full-color Fleischer Studios classics the best treatment possible. They look great with detailed, shaded animation and some pioneering effects animation. These wartime cartoons (1941-1943) do contain some offensive racial caricatures and general nationalistic propaganda, so be aware of that, but technically these are among the most sophisticated short cartoons of the last century. Supplementary material includes a great documentary about the production and legacy of these cartoons and of Superman himself. Great, complete collection and the best these are ever likely to look.

I love the outstanding quality of those classic movie short subject Superman cartoon and it is nice it has an extra feature as well. One of these cartoons with robots influenced Miyazaki's robot in CASTLE IN THE SKY according to an interveiw I read !

My expectations were exceeded. Best price, very fast shipping and no hassles.

Had a memory lane watching this, the quality in this is amazing. Wish there was more special features but I still enjoyed it. I'm very happy WB decided to release a Blu-ray of this gem.

A chance to see one of the first on screen appearances of the Big Blue Boyscout. You won't be disappointed.

this is the best version of the Fleischer Superman out there. beautiful picture %26 sound.

Classic superman, in the best way to view it. Loved every short.

The DVD is a blast from the past.

I normally try to avoid buying through third parties but in this case, the product came in a timely fashion and in good condition. The look of the new Blu-ray re-issue is a huge improvement over Gaiam's previous re-issue. All 17 original Superman shorts are once again included in this set, as with the Gaiam presentation. What's more, they are presented in the exact chronological order in which they appeared in their initial presentation so many decades ago. Adding to that, all 17 shorts are featured on a single Blu-ray disc this time out instead of being spread across the two discs used in Gaiam's release. On a separate note, the bonus content featured with this re-issue is positive, mostly. However, it lacks the companion booklet that comes with Gaiam's release. That booklet has such an in-depth history of Superman and the shorts. The bonus content in this collection is good but nowhere near as in-depth as that in Gaiam's set. All things considered, this presentation is one of the top TV and movie re-issues of 2023.

I never received the product because FedEx lost my package
