I tested this tempura mix in my air-fryer as a dry coating for some protein (tofu, chicken etc) after I let the protein sit in a wet marinade so the dry mix had somewhere to stick and the proteins turned out great! Much crisper than if I were to have just used regular flour.
This mix is an absolute game-changer for homemade seafood. It creates a batter that cooks up insanely light, golden, and crispy without feeling greasy or heavy. • Flawless Texture: Holds a brilliant crunch while keeping fish, shrimp, and even vegetables tender and moist inside. • Easy Prep: Whisk with ice-cold water (or seltzer for an extra-airy crunch) and it's ready to go in seconds. • Subtle Flavor: Perfectly seasoned so it enhances the natural taste of fresh seafood without overpowering it. Whether you're frying up classic fish and chips, coconut shrimp, or fresh veggie tempura, this blend delivers a clean, professional finish every single batch. A permanent staple in the pantry!
I hadn't ever done any tempura frying before, though I had deep fried other foods. The directions were very simple and easy to follow, and the batter crisped up perfectly. The flavor was very nice and subtle so it didn't overpower the flavor of what it covered. This was a fun and satisfying way to make a new kind of dish for dinner.
McCormick Golden Dipt Tempura Batter was delicious and easy to use. We tried it with shrimp and with Mahi Mahi as a fish and chips type of meal. We added some seasonings (Old Bay, garlic, pepper) and water to the mix. Coated the shrimp and fish, then fried it in a pan. The texture and crisp was just right! I would definitely be using this again. *Please note that I received a free sample of this product from McCormick in exchange for an honest review.
McCormick Golden Dipt Tempura Seafood Batter makes it easy to get deliciously crispy seafood at home. The batter mixes easily and fries up golden brown with a light, crunchy texture without overpowering the flavor of the seafood. It works especially well with shrimp, fish, and other seafood, and the finished coating stays nice and crisp. Overall, it's a convenient option when you want restaurant-style fried seafood without having to make your own batter from scratch.
I really enjoyed using McCormick Tempura Batter Mix! It was so easy to prepare and made a light, crispy coating that turned out really delicious. I used it for vegetables and shrimp, and everything came out golden and crunchy without being too heavy. It's a great option when you want to make restaurant-style tempura at home without a lot of effort. I'll definitely be buying it again!
I wasn't sure what I was expecting, but I made a shrimp tempura and it turned out quite tasty. I wish the batter was a bit thicker, but that may have been user error. Next time I'll definitely use less water and maybe add a touch of salt. Overall, it made for a quick tasty dinner, that my spouse and kids all happily ate (a win in and of itself).
Loved this batter and the ease of using it! Tried this with shrimp but can easily see this used with chicken or veggies. Only requires that you add water but my husband thought about replacing it with lager for an adult only spin. Will definitely recommend this product as a quick option if you don't have time to make it on your own.
When using this product I found the consistency to be really thick. I had to add water to make it a thinner batter (more of my preference) I would add clearer instructions on people preferences such thick, medium thick, or thin batter. Overall this batter has potential. The batter was flaky and good.
I really enjoy my seafood, and anything I can do to enhance my meal experience I'm willing to try. Texture matters more than taste to me sometimes. I prefer any breading or batter to have spices and a crunchy texture. I received this free sample from Bzzz Agent in exchange for my honest review. A lot of other breadings or batter mixes I've tried seem to get soggy or wet once removed from oil, and it ruins all the crunch. I've had good experiences with McCormick over the last 25-30 years. And I think this Tempura batter is exactly the type of thing they would make. I have several crappie, and a few trout I'd put back at the beginning of spring, and got them thawed, dried, and prepped for dipping. The batter was easily composed, although I thought it looked runny and lumpy. It didn't seem to evenly coat my fish, but it did stay on the fish as I fried it. It was too thin of a batter, and I felt like I wanted it to be thicker. It has a somewhat "sweeter" (for lack of a better word) taste, and doesn't crunch at all the way I like breading to be. I added in some Old Bays seasoning and some extra salt & pepper. I also tried coating some veggies, broccoli, and green beans, only being successful with a few mushrooms. And they were just ok. Which is ok, but I'd probably tell my dad and brother to not worry about trying it. It just doesn't stand out to me.
