Mega Construx Pokemon Squirtle vs. Charmander Battle Pack

If you have a child who loves Pokémon and also building toys, this product line is a must. My 9 year old said some of the pieces were a little challenging to assemble, but given that she assembled the entire kit independently, I can't knock any stars off. She loved building the set, loves Pokémon, and was really excited to get this. She has asked for more sets for her birthday :) They also are compatible with other building block sets, which can extend play. An issue in play also is that the characters' feet sometimes stick to the environment pieces when the characters are lifted off, but it's not hard for an older child to just fix it and continue playing :) We hope they come out with more sets that include trainers and more environments! She is now 7 (Oct birthday) and LOVED receiving the Squirtle & Charmander build. They are compatible with other building brands and she has since made a sort of Pokemon conservation park complete with a water section and even a rock wall! Honestly, her only complaint was that Squirtle ought to have come with sunglasses--like from the Squirtle Squad episode. She looks forward to collecting all the other Pokemon! This set is easy to assemble and the pieces for together nicely but are also easy to take apart. My son loves plating with this set and also enjoys rearranging the layout. We will definitely purchase the other sets! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

I'll start of with the fact that my son is huge Pokemon fan! He loves everything Pokemon. He was really excited to get this set. He actual choose this specific one. He liked that he was getting 2 of his favorite Pokemon: Charmander and Squirtle! But when he started putting it together he had hard time understanding the instructions and thus he pretty quickly lost interest in it. And I can understand why! They are pretty confusing compared to other building blocks products. And not much you can do to play with them. But I was impressed by plastic quality and the fact that pieces actually fit well together. So pros: It's Pokemon! And nice quality Cons: confusing building instructions. My 7 year old son was so excited to see these pokemon mega construx when they came in the mail. Opened the box and there is a lot of packaging for all the little pieces. Long story short my son started putting it together got frustrated because some of the pieces don't fit snugly and kept falling off. Handed over to my husband to finish and he had the same problems. This was a difficult and disappointing build. My six year old son gave up on it almost instantly since he found the directions confusing and the pieces hard to manage. I hate to say it, but I doubt we would ever buy another Mega Construx toy and stick with Lego. The pieces were quite small, the plastic felt cheap, and my son was not happy with the look of the characters. Quite frankly, I also found the build process frustrating and not enjoyable and I always enjoy building Lego. I think there were too many unique pieces, pieces that were much too small and would get easily lost, confusion related to which pieces go which way, and just overall dissatisfaction with the end result.
