My Robotic Pet: Coding Chameleon

The coding chameleon STEM - I did not get to play with the product itself however it was a hit at Christmas and all the kids were around the table working/ playing on this one. It was the favorite and the one that got everyone excited. The pieces looked quality. They were going through the instructions easily. And building together. I was satisfied with the product. It appeared to be as advertised and well received by children ages 8 to 13.

The kit is quit complicated to build but it does work like expected. Changes colors when you go over something that color and changes to what it shouts it's tongue out at

Fun to play with

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This was a really fun and educational activity for kids, especially during school breaks. It's a good challenge that keeps them engaged while they learn about coding, robotics, and color-sensing technology. The chameleon has different play modes that make it interactive and entertaining. I took off one star only because it doesn't come with the batteries or small setup tools, and you have to be careful when taking the parts apart so you don't accidentally break or bend them. Overall, it's a great hands-on STEM project that kids will enjoy building and watching come to life.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This product was fairly time-consuming to build. The age range is for 11-15 and honestly, as an adult, it was a bit hard to build. My son attempted to build on his own but required a lot of help. Once complete, it was fun to use. It's not too large to carry around.

My only reason for a lower score is that it took us awhile to be able to work on this because my kid wasn't ready to use it independently. Its nice to have stuff we can do together, but I gravitate towards stuff my kid can do independently specifically because we're busy parents who need for our kid to be able to do something while we have a bit of a break

The kids who received it were excited, but it arrived broken. Customer service was contacted about it being broken, and they are sending out another one as a gift, but having it come broken means a delay in getting a replacement. No idea how easy to use it is because of the state it came in. Is this a one-off, or is this quality hard to say?

The idea is great! This is supposed to be a pet robot with three different modes that your 8 year-old can build by themselves. The instruction manual is 25 pages. YouTube video they have is around 45 minutes (and has sped-up parts). Well, I had to go through two kits... In addition to being extremely complicated, you need to be very precise. If you make a mistake, it is difficult to disassemble without breaking a part (and this is how I ended up with the second kit). I was able to build the robot in around 4 hours with my child in our second attempt. But, it is still not working as it is advertised. Definitely not worth the money.
