I didn't realize this item also included a long wooden protector but it does. The ice pick slides into the wooden proctor, completely hiding the metal pick. Very nice safety feature. It did take some days for it to arrive as it was shipped in a padded envelope thru the USA postal mail. It's kind of difficult to find an ice pick these days.
Ice cubes Still today stick together in the container I put them all in. Thank goodness a person can still buy an ice pick today!
I've had one of these for many years and it finally broke (handle separated from shaft) and I was so glad to see I could get another one exactly like the one I had.
Very useful pick to keep when breaking up bagged ice which always seems to come in large frozen lumps rather than useful size cubes. Protective sheath is a bonus and helps in storage in either a kitchen drawer or ice chest. Could not find these in local stores, so thanks walmart.com for quick delivery.
Exactly what I expected!
Playing second to only the butcher knife, this ice pick is an on demand tool that every kitchen needs. There are a lot of choices out there to pick from but I prefer the large handle. Fits my large cheese squeezers just right. The only time you would go wrong by not buying this pick is if they are out of stock. It's also fun to imitate that you are the bad guy in the horror film when you're stabbing the ice, LOL!
This ice pick works wonders. It is an excellent tool to remove any ice buildup in the fridge. I used it for my mini fridge that had a lot of ice buildup. It instantly removed the ice. Some spots were harder to remove than others, and now I have a ton of puncture holes in my freezer from how sharp the ice pick is, but what's the alternative? Having a freezer filled with nothing but ice? I'll take the small puncture holes to actually use the freezer. So, just be careful if you don't want any holes. It really does what it's made for. Sturdy, looks expensive, and sharp.
This really makes me feel good
When I received this item, the pkg was a bit damaged but I went ahead and decided to give it a try. The ice cracking ring had a small screw on top which I thought to be something that would hold the ring on. I gave it a shot. With one blow to a small block of ice the cracking ring flew off taking its screw with it. The screw went down the drain in my kitchen and couldn't be recovered. I'll try to replace it tomorrow. It chipped the ice ok but the ice did scatter a bit. More like a hail storm than snow. No big deal but it doesn't match the kind my parent's had in the 50's.
Received item broken out of package with a long wooden handle not one in picture and the pick was missing
