This is like premium dog food for a basic dog food price. With beef and bone meal as the first ingredient and a high 27% protein, and consistent quality and appearance, my pack has enjoyed Ol Roy High Protein for years and are healthy and fit 10 year olds.
My dog loves this food, altho it's the cheapest dog food around. She does get the higher protein content, but where is it sourced from? There is alot of junk in the kibble as with all kibble. So l add fresh cooked fruits and vegis to her bowl cut up into tiny pieces, l add beef, pork, chicken and fish fat to her bowl. You might say shes spoiled, l even heat her food with hot water on cold mornings and evenings. Yes she eats twice a day, you might ask why don't l buy her a better brand of dog kibble. And the answer is almost every brand is the same, junk! But our animales have to eat and feeding them a hunk of fresh meat twice a day isn't feasible, so l buy the best of the cheapest kibble and add plenty of vitamins via fruits, vegis, and supplements, with the money l save on not feeding her a high priced name brand. She gets a healthier meal than those high priced kibbles, shes happy and full and i'm happy she's happy, full and healthy! Thank you walmart!
My dogs love it and the high rates allow them their active lifestyle. Since my two dogs have a combined weight of nearly 200 lbs, they go through more than a 100 lbs of dog food a month. Matching Ol'Roy ingredient list to the major brands was easy... Costing me about half the money is a blessing.
You really can't get a better properly balanced premium dog food for a better price! I have 3 GSD that are prominent members of my family. As with all living creatures, a BALANCED DIET IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT for maintaining a healthy lifestyle! Dog food alone WILL NOT SUFFICE! It is IMPERATIVE to provide proper vegetation, minerals, proteins, carbohydrates, and fats within a daily diet. I use this dry dog food as a staple or basic element and then include Omega Fatty 3 oils, fish, meat, eggs, carrots, celery, rice, oats, etc. with each daily meal. The reason I choose this particular dry food is that it's #1 INGREDIENT IS MEAT AND BONE MEAL. Most other brands (even premium ones) have rice, corn, or enriched flour/wheat which is analogous to humans getting their nourishment from White Wonderbread - what a joke! The only problem I have found is that most Walmart stores that I frequent rarely carry it (probably not enough profit margin). The solution of course is to buy it online as it usually includes free shipping (depending on the minimum purchase required to meet the free shipping specifications). As long as Walmart keeps the ingredients inline with this specific format, I'll continue to be a lifelong customer, and will encourage others to follow my lead. If at anytime Walmart decides to "cost cut" the ingredients, I will find another brand.
I have been buying really high end dog food for my pedigreed German Shepherds (GSD) (four of them) and it gets quite pricey but I always thought it was necessary as they are not just dogs but part of my inner family! Upon a recent visit with my Vet over their yearly checkups we talked about the type of dog food that would be best for them. My Vet stated that Ol'Roy was an extremely good dog food for my GSD's and he informed me to look at the list of ingedients and what was listed first was always the main ingredient. My Vet also informed me that it was important to change up the dog food at least every 6 months along with adding necessary supplements (yogurt, rice, chicken, lamb, eggs - everything cooked not raw) along with the dog food. Ol'Roy's list of ingredients was BETTER than the top dog food brands I had been buying (Iams, etc.). Not only that but the price of Ol'Roy's was 70% LESS!!!! This meant I could supplement more of the other various foods (mentioned earlier) with this substantial savings! Truly the best way to go for my family!!!!
I have been using the sam's club High performance for many years( it is the same formula as Purina Hi-Pro was) but they are having a shortage so Old roy is the same thing. great food and extra protein and fat for my active show dogs and puppies.
I like the high performance for my young working cattle dogs. It gives them the nutrients and strength to work all day. I have recommended this products to family and friends.
My red tick Beagles love this dog food because it has bone marrow meal first instead of Chicken By Products in it at all. Also has vitamin B12, E A
This is one of the few cheaper brands that doesn't cause an skin allergic reaction in my pittie mix. I notice the last couple of bags the kibble has changed appearance. It used to be all small pieces, but now it seems to have less small bites and more large kibble. I have noticed more dandruff on my dog, not sure if this is a coincidence. This is a pretty decent food if you can't afford the top end stuff- plus it's never been recalled!
How 'bout we discuss this? my dogs have been on this food for yrs. Putting them on something else makes them sick. Heres my issue . . . WHY have you stopped carrying the 50lb bag? 50lbs @ $31 vs. 46lbs @ $34 makes no sense except YOUR bottom dollar!! Then to top it off, you changed the formula of the product; the first ingredient is no longer meat, its a by-product and cornmeal. Idk about these other folks, but i for one prefer the formula be returned to the original, the bags restored to size and get the bigger bags BACK ON THE SHELVES!!
