Quite nice. My daughter decorated it a little, which was nice. She found it easy to fill and put up. Now its just a matter of finding the right place to put it. It can be heavy when fully filled, which I didn't think about, so we had to go higher to find sturdy limbs. Since she is the only provider of seed, she is seeing a lot more activity
Birds of all sizes can eat off this. I've had this type for over 15 years. This was only the 3rd one I had to buy. However, I just learned that if Squirrels eat too much sunflower seeds, they don't get enough variety in their diets. So I had to get a squirrel detourant one. They can still eat out of it - BUT, they can't tip it to the side and dump the whole thing out like this one. They are paint and design-able, as long as the paint isn't dangerous to wildlife. I left mine unpainted and they last for years through all kinds of weather, outside 207.
I love the design and the ease of filling the feeder but I have gotten two broken ones shipped to me in a row. I think there might need to be a better way to send it than flopping around in a big box... maybe it should be wrapped or cushioned. The redwood roof on the feeder has come to me cracked twice in a row now. And the second one was to replace the first one!! I would use them but the large crack will let in rain and bugs and ruin both the feed and the cleanliness for the birds
Just stapled (not well at that). Was wobbly when I took it out of the box! I put in a couple of screws too make it a bit more sturdy, it is easy to fill looks nice, birds love it. The first one lasted about a year. I love everything about it except the quality of assembly!
The ledges are small. Another 1/2 inch on the edge would enable bigger birds to eat at the feeder. The cardinals only feed on my other feeders as they have more space to perch as they eat. I would like to buy a couple more feeders but the selection was limited The crook I bought to hold the bird feeders is fine.
This is a very nice feeder, but the birds seemed to be afraid of it. My birds just disappeared while it was up. They didn't use my flat feeder either. I took the new feeder down today. After I took it down, the flat feeder was again full of hungry birds. Not sure why they didn't like it.
The wood was very nice and a natural finish. We plan to nail the bottoms of the bird houses to wooden posts that we had used for our birdfeeders previously. They needed to be replaced and it's difficult to impossible to find birdfeeders that are not designed to hang up or the nail to a tree. The birdfeeders we purchased from Walmart, three of them, we're not a good design for sitting on the top of a post because the birds did not have enough landing/purchase space so they would have to flutter around and they couldn't get to the seed. In addition to that, the squirrels kept knocking off the top/roof of the feeder. We had to do some redesigning. What we did was we put a round slice of wood underneath each feeder to give additional landing space for the birds on each side of the feeder. And we also found a very strong little metal at the hardware store to clip the wire on top so the roof could not be pushed out of place. Everything is working well now, but it took some creativity and some extra work. I wish there were bird feeders that were designed to be nailed or attached to the top of a wood post.
It is a quality bird feeder except that the birds have nowhere to stand while feeding. I thought the ledge looked large enough in the picture, but it was deceiving. It's actually only about one inch, which isn't big enough for the larger birds (blue jays, cardinals, morning doves, etc.) to stand on and feed. I would not recommend this feeder.
I received the bird feeder very excited to put it outside. Unfortunately, I couldn't. The roof was broken and split at the seam and one of the plastic shields to fold the bird food in wasn't even there. It was no more than kindling wood. I'm disabled and do my shopping online. After this experience I may have to shop elsewhere and not Walmart.
I have this kind of feeder for very long time . It has excellent appearance, very sturdy, and I liked it very much. All other different varieties, did not last. But this one is . That is why I decided to buy another one similar to it. Boy, how I was wrong! The one came today not even remotely close in appearance, and already came with broken roof. Flimsy made , not recommended. Sigh..
