Extremely happy with this purchase. We picked it up the day before Thanksgiving, assembled it and was able to provide our family with a beautiful tasty 17 pound turkey in less than 5 hours ( we smoked it low and slow). It was delicious juicy and perfectly tender. We now have the vertical smoker and the pit boss master edition. We love them both. They provide our family with perfect dinner combinations.
Box was soaked product inside was ok but the manual needs to be replaced … we took a picture and brought the manager out to see the box before we left he said if anything wrong we could bring back but all we need is a new manual
Worked completely out of box. Be patient when assembling unit as directions are pics only. Test cooked a Brisket which I thought would be weak on smoke ring , but pleasantly surprised at 1/4 inch ring. The unit looks like minimum smoke but really did a good job on smoke
Overall a great smoker. Yes, it does use more pellets than the other Pit Boss grills. The only draw back is the water pan. Not sure if it could be used without it where it is. You have to remove the drip pan to put water in it. I always place a water tray in the other smokers but in other places, so they are easy to get too. YOu can't just put your meat in to smoke and forget about it as it warns you that if the water pan runs out of water it could catch fire. At 225F the water pan keeps water for about 1 hour and 15 minutes. The one plus from this one and my other Pit Boss grill is the temperature read out is within 2 degrees of what it actually is in the smoker, where my other Pit Boss grill ranges from 25 to 50 degrees difference, even with the heat deflectors but separately.
I ordered this hesitant based on reviews but read more and more of damage rather than functionality. I received my product and the box looked like it had been through some stuff. I did notice a dent on the door while unpacking and almost stopped there and returned. I reluctantly assembled and did initial fire up and was impressed at features, functionality and honestly the aesthetics aren't bad. Decided to run a couple of tests. Fired her up and ran the temp up to 400 degrees and honestly it took a minute to get there but once it did she held for 30 minutes straight without much fluctuating and it was 55 outside. Dropped her down to 250 and threw in a pork butt. Keeping the water filled is annoying but honestly helpful in maintaining temp in my opinion. Used the probe with the temp set feature. Worked as expected except I forgot the part that once it satisfies it reduces to 130 to keep meat warm. Unfortunately that was only my first stage for the butt so the temp dropped to 130 adding to my smoke time but once I realized what happened set the temp to 275 to finish the wrapped butt she performed as expected. If this machine continues in this fashion beyond worth the $375 I paid for it. Will complete two multiple bird cooks for thanksgiving week. Will report back if needed.
It was delivered to the bottom of my driveway by the curb. After getting up my driveway I opened the box to find it full of glass. I started the return with FedEx scheduled to come pick the box up today. No one ever came. This is poor customer service for a plus member.
After assembly during the first burn in at 350 the smoker climed the 450 and started burning the paint off of the bottom and dropping sparks on my deck. the firepot is not sealed from the outside. Very cheaply made smokebox and lcd display on the controller. After I shut it down the screen became unreadable. I have an older pitboss barrel smoker that has been great but not this new one!
The smoker arrived with a badly bent corner. It could not have been damaged in transit as the damaged area was covered by the metal hopper lid, which was taped to it, and it would have also been bent, but was not. The item was packaged this way and intentionally sent out. I didn't even notice the damaged area until I went to attach the handle (about 75% of the way through assembling the item) and realized something was off. I wasted so much time assembling and then disassembling a busted smoker, and Pitboss definitely shipped it like this.
This it the 3rd smoker delivered each one has been damaged. We are disappointed in having to unbox and rebox and return these two. We had one picked up for return and we took one to the store to return both that were damaged. If you will discount the damage on this one, we will keep it. If not, you can send someone to pick it up. As a sidenote, we live on a private one-way street with no outlet and the pick up truck if it is an 18 wheeler has to park a quarter of a mile away.
That vertical smoker is not worth the money. If I could give it less than a star I would The first one that I received was damaged it worked three times and then just stopped. They replaced it. The second one I received was not damaged but it worked once after that it wouldn't even make it up to 200° before it cut off. Pit boss really needs to get off of their high horse Their customer service at Pit Boss is a joke. They told me that they had nothing to do with it. it was all Walmart and I should talk to them and hung up the phone. I will never buy another Pit Boss product again. I would rather spend more money and get a better quality product than one from Pit boss.
