First, it showed up earlier than expected and then the fun began. The assembly of it was rather simple and easy to follow the instructions. I've cooked 3 times with it now and each time it preformed well. Smoked a brisket, smoked a ham, and grilled steaks, vegetables, and chicken breast all at the same time and it was amazing.
After much research and learning how easy a pellet grill/smoker was to use I purchased one. I have never smoked anything before and honestly only ever grilled hot dogs and hamburgers. After building this I primed it as the manual suggests and then smoked a pork shoulder for 10 hours and oh my! After I slid the flame broiler cover over and grilled steaks, brats, burgers, and dogs. Everyone couldn’t have been happier including myself!
The pit boss classic is my first smoker and I should have purchased one a long time ago. The quality of the grill is really good. Assembly is easy. Cant wait to try many different meats and recipes. Dont forget that the former owner of traeger now works for Dansons which makes pit boss grills.
So far this grill has been fantastic. I have read the negative reviews and am keeping an eye out for those issues. As of yet I have nothing negative to say. The ability to slide the heat plate and sear is great! The only negative would be I had a burnout on second cook. However that was only due to me not cleaning ash pot. Now I clean before every cook, hasnt happened since.
This pit i nice..its basically set n forget.all the food comes out tender and flavored with wood.Easy to assemble and shipped to my door in 4 days. The only downside is the smoke flavor.although you. xxxdo get flavor of wood its not the same smoke you get from traditional smoke meat.
I disliked the fact that I paid for assembly and it came in a box with no instructions that you would be sending someone later to assemble it. My disabled husband assembled it. Afterwards, I received a text from someone on Angie's list that they were coming to assemble it. A week later. I paid for assembly AND assembled it. I should get a refund, but I don't even know how to start the process. That should be said UP FRONT when you purchase it. I was expecting it to be delivered assembled. Otherwise the smoker/grill seems to work nicely. It's a great grill. It was a little pricey.
I like this smoker well enough. I have a problem that happens often that the flame goes out and it continues to feed pellets to get the the temp up. Pretty soon you have a cold smoker that is producing tons of smoke from smoldering. I have contacted the company twice and never received a response.
This item was a gift from me to a relative, shipped %26 was received missing parts and damaged. It was obvious it was dropped at some time prior to arriving. When I contacted Pit Boss, they were not very helpful just to get a couple damaged %26 missing parts replaced. After pulling teeth and bending the bottom rack back into place to be straight, they said they would send the parts needed, after I was required to register the item in the other party's name. The party it was gifted to were so graceful in receiving a damaged item, I would have returned it myself, as I feel it was unacceptable to receive a damaged item that costs a lot of my hard earned money.
After a lot of research, I chose this grill based on price and described features. Why pay more for the same or less features in another brand right? I once again have realized that you usually get what you pay for. I owned this grill for less than 24 hours. I didn't get to use it even 1 time. I bought this online on a Saturday morning, picked it up mid-afternoon, and assembled it that night. I had plans for smoking a brisket starting Sunday morning. I got up early Sunday morning, drug the grill to my backyard, plugged it in, and it did absolutely nothing! It would not power on at all. Checked the outlet, checked the extension cord, re-read the owner's manual, still nothing. Started going through the troubleshooting section and immediately found out that now they expect me to start taking the grill apart and checking fuses and wiring. Getting agitated but okay, I got out the screwdriver, laid on my back under the grill, and took out the 8 screws. The fuse was intact with no issues. Plugged the unit back in, pushed the power button, and it magically came on. Great right? Nope! Apparently just lightly touching the wires with your finger would spark the control board on/off/on/off with zero consistency. If the wind blows, this thing is going to turn itself off, or on, or off; who really knows? I'm guessing the solder joints on the control board are garbage and that is why there are so many other reviews from people complaining about this thing being inconsistent. Who wants this thing turning off on its own mid-cook on an expensive piece of meat? Who wants to go out after a few hours and find cold, raw meat on the grill? My unit also only came with one temperature probe even though the Pit Boss website says it has two. Threw the whole thing in the back of my truck and promptly returned it. That brisket is in the oven now roasting; not nearly what I had expected for today. I'm going to get that other brand now and happily pay a bit more. You probably should too. Too much grief buying this one. Update: I have the other brand now and it is working flawlessly. For $200 more it just works and came already assembled. I also bought a wireless, remote thermometer and that's a nice add-on.
Worked great for the first three cooks. On the fourth use, I go to turn unit on, and nothing happens. No power whatsoever. After troubleshooting for over an hour with customer support (who were friendly and helpful), the problem ended up being the control board and ignitor. The control board glitched out causing the shut down cycle to run for an extended period of time and at the same time to burn up the ignitor. Then I’m told by Customer support that all parts will be shipped to my house within 5-7 days. That was 13 days ago and after I informed them of this yesterday, they notified me that all parts were on back order for another two weeks at least . I’m going to give it one more try with this grill when all the parts actually show up and I repair it myself when I eventually get a day off from work. The only reason for me doing this is because the less than a handful of times I actually used this pellet smoker, it worked perfectly. I was very satisfied with how easy it was to operate and how well it cooked everything I threw at it! Hopefully the parts failure I experienced were a fluke! I’m hoping if everything comes together and I get it working again and the problem was just a one off, then I could recommend it.
