when you need water chestnuts, these do the job
To be totally honest, I overlooked this brand several times because the label didn't match what I typically associate with water chestnuts. Since most of my decades-old family recipes are rooted in Asian cuisine, I've always gravitated toward brands with more traditional Asian-inspired packaging. I'm thrilled to say these water chestnuts completely exceeded my expectations! The taste, freshness, crunch factor (“crunchability” should absolutely be a real word), and even the price were all outstanding. Reese Water Chestnuts are now my new go-to ingredient and the secret weapon in many of my favorite recipes. YAY for creating such a stellar product!
Recently use these in a stir-fry(Didn't use the whole can. Just kept the reserve in it's liquid and refrigerated-works fine for me). All(texture, flavor, color and size of slices)were satisfactory. Always nice to have that crunch in a stir-fry or a salad. : ) So YES, I would recommend this product(Don't recall any bad experiences with ANY of the REESE canned products).
A good price for a good item. These contain only the chestnuts, water and citric acid. They were still fresh tasting and crunchy. A quality product that I will purchase again.
This is something I do not think of buying until a recipe calls for it, but it tastes great. Water chestnuts add a little something extra to light dishes. This is the brand I grew up with, so it is nice seeing it at Walmart.
The sliced chestnuts were a delight! They were soft and they had a bit of a nutty flavor. Yummy! I added them to my homemade soup. It put a new twist in my already fabulous soup! What I appreciated most was the benefit of the chestnuts already being peeled, pre-cooked and ready to use! What a significant time saver! All of this, really makes the price of these chestnuts a true bargain!
What they do not show you in the picture or items description is: this has a prop 65 warning for lead contamination. I think people should be aware of what they are buying before hand- not after . Show the lead warning Walmart-
The problem is that two of the three cans I received were so dented they were on the verge of compromising their seal. I don't know if it's cheap cans, cheap ways of shipping cans where they come in smashed, warehouse issues, shelving issues- whatever. But that's a no go. You might get away with selling to uneducated food safety persons but old folks and food professionals know what compromises food safety. Dented cans will do this.
Very disappointed! I NOTICED THE CAN WAS DENTED WHEN I UNPACKED IT. BUT I WAS SHOCKED, as I was about to open it for a recipe, and I noticed the code on the top of the can reads: 4500/0171 12072021 924 1 BEST BY JUL 12 2024
Pay there's a not the chestnut. I remember I just had a can of them different brand. These are disgusting they smell. I thought they smell like throw up. Absolutely horrible. Do not buy these.
