I have tried other traps in the past, but my yard consist of heavy clay and the stab style traps have never worked well for me. I tried this trap hoping for something that might work and it succeeded. I now have three of these and they work great they are heavy duty. Mine are three years old and are just as strong as when they were new.
I tired the sonic sticks with little to no impact plus I have a acre to cover and that would have been expensive. I tried the mole repellent and it made one mole jump out of its hole and run but I did not have enough hoses to do the whole lawn. The repellent worked for a day or two and they came back. I used the nomole traps that woked 0% and broke. I have even tried the little poison gummy worms but I am not certain if they go and die or if they are new moles moving in. The Victor Out of Sight has caught 5 moles in the past three months. The problem with the Victor was me. I did not have enough of them for the invading army of moles this year. The moles, one or two, started showing up a few years ago and I pitied around with them thinking they were not a problem. My mistake, three years later I have a horde of them. I bought my first two Victor Out Of Sight traps this year from Walmart at $11.95 each plus shipping. Now they raised the price to $18.98 plus shipping. I just ordered 4 more Victor Out of Sight traps from Home Depot for to $9.97 and free ship to store. These traps work but you also have to work a little. The traps a real tough to set and you need some strength to do set it. Make sure to always set the safety so you don't break a finger or find one missing which scares me to death. You have to dig a hole (I have hard clay type dirt/mud), make a mound of dirt in the middle, set the trap, make sure it won't snag on roots and rocks, and cover it with with dirt (I use dirt then an old plastic plant container with a long yard spike to cover the whole also). I check the trap a day or two. Most of the time they are empty. I have learned to make a few flag markers to mark their tunneling, stamp the tunnels one day, come back the next day or two and see if it tunneled there again. If they retunnel then you know to set the trap there in a straight section. I would recommend these traps, sad to say that for the moles but I broke my toe and have twisted my knee and ankles plenty of times in their holes and mounds. The traps take a little work (about 10 to 15 minutes per hole) but they are doing their job one mole at a time. I gave it 4 stars as it is not that easy to set them nor time efficient to use as I have to keep checking the taps and the mole's activities to relocate the taps every day or two.
Awesome Victor! Best mole trap! Worth every penny! Buy one today you won't be sorry :) Thanks Wal Mart!
I purchased 3 traps. One didn't want to set properly, but the other two work just fine. Well built and hopefully will catch my moles.
Made of heavy Steel, large powerful spring activated Jaws. it will take all users of this trap a little time to figure out where to put the trigger and safety and the engagement Tong's in order to set the Trap properly. We're good gloves, pre-cut two lines in the soil with a knife where the pincers of the Trap will travel. This will help reduce the friction the Jaws have to travel against when activated. I have also discovered that if you bend the trap activation tab upward slightly improve the depth that the Trap can be set greatly increasing your mole kill. I missed three moles before I slightly bent my activation tab upward. The tab I've mentioned is what contacts the ground where the mole pushes upward to activate the trap. Wear gloves and good luck
This mole trap is widely used with good success, according to reviews. For me, a 66 yr old active lady, it was impossible to set the trap. Just not strong enough so had to return.
For a over 60 person, tHis trap is difficult to set up.
The instructions were not well written. Took longer than it should have to figure out how to set it. It takes strong hands to set it. The hooks used to spread the jaws can be cumbersome. I found the best way to set it was to place in on a flat surface with the jaws extended out over the edge of this flat surface, then the hooks are easier to compress opening the jaws and to connect the safety latch. I did catch a mole the first night I set it.
I have not had any success with it and I am not sure why. To put it in place you have to disturb the mole tunnel a fair amount. The cool weather may have an influence on the mole's activity.
After 45 minutes of trying to get the trap to set and nearly taking my finger off (the springs are quite strong), the trap was returned to the store. The instructions are nearly worthless. The best instructions for TRYING to get it set are by looking at the picture in this ad. After resulting to mimicking the picture I found the trigger (flat bar on the bottom) would not stay in place, it simply slips off on every attempt to set it. There is a hook to lock the trap open, after using that and re-evaluating the trap I can't see how it would ever work. The trigger sets well to the side of the trap (where the mole run would be). I found it to be a huge waste of my time and I'm shopping other options.
