Excellent design for getting down into areas where roots are growing. Still takes some muscle for larger roots but small ones (~1/2” or less) are rather easily cut by the tip of the blade. I went through a 1.5” root using the teeth on the side. It required me to step down firmly on the shovel but after a few strokes it cut through.

Just what I needed for stubborn bush! Saw teeth on sides of shovel are needed for big roots. Root Slayer is heavy and weight is needed for leverage. Big root over grown bush, didn't stand a chance!!
this is a game changer shovel, sluced bread of shovels. my neighbors, my relatives have all bought or received as gifts....giving the same response.

Handle is a bit different but good comfortable i love the teeth and wedge edge for your foot support
