I bough Rubbermaid cereal containers 30 years ago & still use them. They are so useful and sturdy I decided to get a couple more. These new ones exceeded my expectations. They have truly managed to improve an already great product. On top of that, the price was close to what I paid 30 years ago!
I bought two of these to assist me in reorganizing my pantry. I live in Florida so insects are a constant possibility and when those tiny ants appeared, it was ON! Anything in a bag or box got placed into glass or plastic with airtight seals! These were for 5lb bags of rice and they're perfect! It looks so much better than all those boxes and I no longer have to fear seeing insects.
The measurement is listed on the cereal keeper and the last listed is 16 cups. There is enough space above that to the lid, which apparently makes 18 cups. I think these hold a tad less than the regular Rubbermaid containers that are not molded for the hand and does not have the flip up area in the lid.....on those, the measurement list goes to 18 cup with a tad more room at the top to the lid. Bottom line, these appear to hold a little less than the regular ones. Both are the same height, by the way. None of these Rubbermaid kitchen storage containers are ever at the Huntingdon, TN Walmart. I don't think they stock them. I either go to the Milan, TN Walmart in which half the time they don't have them or I order them online. What I do appreciate about this particular storage container is the molded area for the hand....makes them much easier to pick up. I didn't purchase these for cereal. I keep a lot of various dry ingredients and I find these will work well for some grains, pasta, etc that I want to pour out or dip out through the flip top with spoon/scoop. Bob ask Val, 'why do you keep purchasing Rubbermaid products?' Of which Val replied 'Because I love Rubbermaid products, they're fun, durable, functional, and last forever. So don't ask, Bob'. :)
This was a new addition to our pantry. They are the same height as the tall Rubbermaid container. Holds a bag of cereal easily. The fliptop lid is easy to open. There is a little indention handle that makes popping it open super easy for any size hands. the side handle indention is really nice for gripping the container with one hand while pouring cereal into the bowl.
The Rubbermaid containers have made a big difference in the freshness of our cereal. It has also helped in organizing the pantry shelves.
Difficult to get the sticker off! But other than that, it does the job. Can't get the flapper lid thing to stay open when pouring, but that could be "user error" on my part. It holds the contents well and seems to seal nicely. I couldn't tell you if things inside would go stale, as the stuff in mine doesn't stay in it very long. (dry dog food). I'd buy it again. Especially if I could get the darn sticker off the container without it being a big ordeal. :)
Just what I wanted. Matches one I already had. Both lid seals are tight. Typically Rubbermaid quality . Pleased.
Shame on you Rubbermaid, after all these years and all the complaints about not being able to remove your cemented on labels you never listened. This cereal container is great except it sits out on my counter with this big ugly label on it. If I could've afforded a different one I would have bought it but unfortunately I couldn't afford it. I don't recommend this if you're can afford another brand where you can remove the label.
The only issue I have with it (to me it's a big one) the lid opens way too easily. I have them laying on their side and when The kids or even I go to pull one out, more often than not we open the lid by accident. And cereal spills out. The clicking Maneuver needs to be tighter. It keep cereal fresh but, I would buy one that doesn't open so easily.
Not moth proof; I got these thinking they would keep moths out of my flours and grains, but as others have pointed out they are not insect proof, the hinge allows bugs in. I have had to throw many things away.
