I bought my BT-100 Battery Load Tester aproximately 1 month ago and was really pleased with overall quality and design of the unit, it is easy to use, is very well constructed and will I'm sure be a treasured piece of my electrical arsenal of test equipment for many years to come. Yes there are cheaper devices on the market but after looking at 3 or 4 others I decided to go for the better quality albeit slightly pricier Schumacher BT-100 and am very pleased with it's performance, quality and ease of use.
I'm a do it yourselfer and responsible for keeping our three vehicles in top running order. Over the years I used a basic multi-meter to monitor battery/alternator voltage. However, I was never was able to perform a load test unless I had my wife or son crank while I read multi-meter. I recently had an a cranking issue with one of the vehicles. Although the battery reflected 12.4 volts(engine not running) it simply wouldn't crank. After checking alternator output and ruling out starter, I realized that I had experienced this issue before...weak/damaged battery. Rather than waiting for my wife to return from work to perform the load test I decided to buy the the BT-100 at a local store. Bought the BT100 and charged the battery. Hooked up the BT-100 and performed the load test. Just as I thought, the battery was a goner. The BT100 is a vital tool to assist any user with keeping their auto in top running shape. Performing easy maintenance testing using the BT-100 will prevent potential no starts down the road. It's easy to use this tool. I highly recommend the BT-100.
I've used both the testers from the old days, newer ones and now this one. This is the best. It's light weight and the best part is the red button. Huge improvement! The scale readout itself is much better. You still have to have a fast eye but you will know even better where your battery stands. Get one. You might save yourself some serious cash over the cost of having to replace a battery. Saving just one battery is well worth it.
Used it twice works great
I was surprised it was delivered within 48 hours of order. Solid unit, does whats it supposed to.
bought 2 months ago, works good , comparable priced
I bought this battery tester to test the battery in my wife's 3 yr. old Toyota, (tested fine). Also, four marine batteries (not yet tested). Confident it will quickly test these older batteries which don't get a lot of use. So confident I bought one for my son (2 older cars plus golf cart). It does the job that a simple volt meter can't.
This battery tester works great. Checks the battery under load, tests the charging system with and without accessories on and checks the starter. My only complaint would be that it would be nice if the cables were longer. You can't be in your car and read the meter. So for some reading you pretty much need 2 people. One to be in the car and another person outside the car to read the meter. This is especially true when testing the starter. Great deal for a little over 20 bucks.
The one I purchased was not accurate. It read 11.8 volts while my multimeter read 12.46. This through all the readings off showing the charging system was bad as well as the battery capacity. If it had an extrenal adjustment to calibrate it I would have kept it. FWIW Im an Electrician by trade.
unit damaged : cracked plastic face of the metter and bent inside display making unit totaly useless
